GK Vs Deamons Campaign Box set?

Deamon Wolf

Recommended Posts

I would lean towards:

GK - Brotherhood Champion, 5 Power Armoured Grey Knights, 5 Grey Knight Terminators, Dreadknight

Daemons - Herald of Khorne*, 10 Bloodletters, 3 Bloodcrushers, Skullcannon / Bloodthrone

*possibly on a Juggernaut

It's not what I'd want... but it would fit the bill as far as GW sets usually go.

Thats kinds what im hopeing for as well that and getting a chance to possibly have a cool new unique HQ model with his own rule set

( Bring back Thrawn wub.gif ) I think that GW could do so much nice shizzle for Grey Knights Like a NDK or Dreadnaught formation or 2 or 3 new Detatchments with some very nice and nifty new rules

Since our codex update was pretty underwhelming it'd be cool with some formations to add some flavour to our otherwise quite one dimensioned codex.

I think the NDK is good enough as is and I'd rather that some of the former glorius but now less loved entries would get some formations to bring them back into viability. Paladins would be a great example but also the strike squads would be nice to add some variety to the troops section. Perhaps paladins and a dreadnought in a storm raven or paladins in a land raider would get some cool bonus or two strike squads deep striking could charge on the turn they arrive, for example?

Honestly I thought it was gonna happen a few months ago when the latest Grey Knight book came out for sanctum reach. Figured it was gonna introduce some new units that way but it seems that GW decided to miss out on a good sales opportunity. I would love to see thawn and mordrak(despite him being a warlord trait now) come back. And as we all want make purgatory squads actually useful.

Mordrak and his Ghostly Bodyguard would be a nice dataslate. A GM with slightly better stats, a Hammer, guaranteed First to the Frey, and the ability to either be bought as an IC or as the "upgrade character" to his own squad of GKT.

Thawn is another great dataslate potential, purchased as a GKT squad upgrade (as he was before), with a Soul Glaive and the ability to stand back up if killed, etc.

Why oh why can GW not do such an easy addition! It's not like we can't already build both from the GKT squad kit.

Dreadknight Brethren (Apocalypse) - 3-5 Dreadknights

The only bonus this formation even gets is the ability to give any knights within 12" of the lead Dreadknight shred

Extermination Force (Apocalypse) - 1 Dreadknight with a Heavy Psycannon and 3-5 Stormravens.

Dreadknight can fire tracker round which means all Stormraven shots at marked target hit instantly and models with Daemon rule half either toughness or armour save.

Everon, can you please find that source for

That 3-5 DK formation? That would be awesome if we could have rending psilencersand HI

Yeah... we also have an assassins gormation in pandorax that is extremely out dated since their not even gk anymore and their rules have changed

So essentially all of the formations we knights get are apocalypse formations and their still not even on par with other formations. We are definitely getting the sisterhood treatment.

It's very odd we've become so ignored. Annoying, but also curious. Not long ago we were updated in 5th with great fanfare and we sold like hot cakes on release.

I'm hoping Forge World revisit us at some point (maybe after they're done with Horus Heresy...so never).

A Bro-Champ, a squad of Strikers, and a Dreadnought vs 3 Heralds, 40 spawn, and a Greater Daemon. People will buy it for the daemons and trade out the GK to people just getting into the game.

We're playing with both hands tied behind our backs at the moment. GW have saddled us with a codex that redeemed none of our awful units, made our medicore units into unusable trash, and buffed what was already our mainstays. They also basically made it impossible for us to play a normal game. Every game of 40k is Purge the Alien (or Daemon rather) for a Knight army. All of our advice to new players is 'buy 2 boxes of Terminators, 2 boxes of Dreadknights, 2 boxes of the new 10-man Strike box, and maybe a Raven'. That's literally our army now. Add to the fact the only viable way to play our army is as a Nemesis Strikeforce, and we're even struggling to play Purifiers in an army without bringing Allied help.

The reason we're all so annoyed at this state of affairs is that it didn't have to be. Our 5th edition codex didn't need to be gutted this way. All it needed was some army special rules and our psychic powers brought into line with 7th edition standards, a bit of points adjustments, and maybe a new unit or two (ie the standard Marine treatment the vanilla book gets every edition). We were not asking for the abomination that Tau, Eldar, and Daemons recieved. Our FAQ did a great job of this, and I can't help but feel it was the last time anyone sane had a hand in our rules. Whatever they were smoking in 6th edition when the xenos and Chaos books came out, they must have been on the worst comedown when they wrote our rules.

Our 7th edition release was a complete joke. They re-packaged some of the old Justicar and Terminator models as 'limited order HQ choices'. I mean, really, not even a re-sculpt. I'm glad Finecast died, but if this means GW is just gonna give up on giving us new models, I honestly don't know what is worse. The battleforce is okay, but it includes a Landraider for no discernible reason (psybolts are gone, Psychic Pilot is gone...it didn't go down in price, or gain Deepstrike...I mean really, why take it over a Raven?). They had the nerve to charge a limited edition with a dust jacket and a few print-out pieces of artwork. Even for a Marine army, it's pathetic how few boxes you need to build a Knight army. We have zero unit variety, GW struggle to make a single viable choice in each Force Org slot (ie nothing changed from our 5th edition incarnation, except they pushed Terminators into being viable again).

I think the charge of relentless negativity is unfair. We're calling this as we see it, GW overreacting and nerfing us into the ground, based on precisely nothing (we haven't dominated any major tourney since the xenos armies got updated in 6th). I actually like the Nemesis Strikeforce a lot, I think its one of the few changes that actually helps us. For so long we've been asking for a way to make our army how it seems in the lore; a hard-hitting strikeforce that doesn't bother with sieges or mechanised assaults, but just teleports into the enemy's heart and rips it out. Turn 1 Deepstrike with Run+Shoot is exactly that. Wider problems with 40k prevent the NSF being a top-tier army (Insanity, thy name is Riptide), but its the closest GW have ever come to matching our lore with our playstyle. I don't miss the days of MSU Purifier mech one bit. Our 7th edition codex isn't completely terrible, but I'm damning it with faint praise for a reason. GW had a chance to make all our units at least playable, and they completely screwed it up.

I'm bored reading the army lists sub-forum. I am. Because I'm writing the same lists as everyone else, more or less, and vice versa. It's not because of group-think, and its not because we're all equally narrow minded. We can only work with the tools we're given. GW chose to give us an Ally codex. We're dealing with it, but its not fun.

Truth be told, none of the 7ed codices look all that great. Even SW need to make frequent use of SM allies to compete against Tau and Eldar. Drop Pod Centurions and Invisible TWC is basically my only way to go to a tournament, much like yours would be a triple NDK Cent star.

But, in the end, why not start a second army then? Get yourself some Blood Angels or SM and use GK models. It is pretty much the next best thing.

Most of us have multiple armies. It's just that Allying is not the answer to a lack luster codex, although it seem to be the answer GW decided to run with. Per GK lore, GK are a stand alone elite strike force that purges any friendly that many have even the remotest notion that the GK exist, so why the <cuss word> would we as players ally every game?

Yes, in the past editions GK has been a small addition allied to better defined armies. Yet in 5th GKs became a better defined army, and 6th brought GK inline with the other codexes. 7th was a complete step backwards. I truly do enjoy the TDA heavy Nemesis Strike Force, because it is the play style I enjoyed in 5th. However, I do not like being forced to ally in order to be on par with other codexes. Why should I have to bring in Centurions when my Paladins are supposed to be filling the same role? Why are my Puragtors so useless? Why do I have to jump through hoops to make Purifiers viable?

Yes, it was fun back in 3rd when I would take a small core of Marines as "Death Watch" just so I could field my Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle in the same FoC. You know what's not fun? Taking 3 FoC's in the same army just to make it playable. Sure, I can take 2 CADs at 1850 with 6 NDKs, 2 Ravens, and just enough Strikes + Librarians to make it legal. But is it fun? It is tournament winning? Will I want to be playing it next year? Why are my options so limited?

So, yeah, there you go, that's why we as a community are both bitter at our codex and going once more unto the breach with our heads held high. We know we've been in a better place, we know GW can fix the issue, and we know GW most likely won't. We just haven't had all of our hope beaten from us yet.

On a side note, the Tyranid Spore formation is AWESOME with my GKs!!!!! You should all try it! I'm sure there's lore we can bruise to explain it to opponents. /cry

Just saw one of the formations for BA in a recent white dwarf. If you get three storm ravens and three squads of tacticals you get teleport homers for free for the sergeants. As special rules you roll for reserves for the entire formations and you can roll from turn 1, the tacticals have objective secured and anything teleporting within 12" of two units of the formation with teleport homers they don't scatter AND they can charge on the turn they arrive.

Why don't we get stuff like that? It'd make sense fluff-wise and it't make our army much more interesting to play!
