Filius
Hi there, I'm currently thinking a lot about an own DIY Chapter. And I try to follow one of the first Do's of the Guide to DIYing: "Read, read and then read some more.". So besides reading through Novels (Which I do anyway), I stumble through the Lexicanum and the 40k-Wikia (and 4Chan, hehe), to get to know as many interesting Chapters as possible. This leads my Question: I know the nine loyal Chapters which where created from the Legions, and I know the Chapters which where prominently presented within the Main Books (Core, Rules, Codex: Space Marines, Codices, Codex Supplements, Novels, Games), but then I somehow can't get an overview, which Chapters are more prominent within the Community and which are just sidenotes in some Fluff. So my Questions is: Which are the most popular Chapters (beyond the obvious ones)? Those Chapters, I know and have looked at: Dark Angels White Scars Space Wolves Imperial Fists Blood Angels Iron Hands Ultramarines Salamanders Raven Guard Black Templars Crimson Fists Iron Snakes Blood Ravens Gray Knights Red Scorpions Carcharodons So, Hints and Tips like these would really help me: "Look at that Chapter, quite a lot of Players like them because of the Colours and the Background", or something like "Don't forget this Chapter, there has be a Series of Novels on them in the Black Library", or "Look at them, they have a really brillant Background Concept." Thanks a lot in Advance! P.S.: I thought this could be the right subforum, as it might help me and others doing research for DIYing. If it's not, I apologize! And please put it in the right subforum. Lysimachus
Beyond the ones you've mentioned, I'd say the next most popular Chapters are those featured in the Badab war. Given Forgeworld providing extra background and new Chapter Tactics for them, many of these forces have had a resurgence of popularity. Examples include Raptors, Lamenters, Marines Errant, Howling Griffons, etc, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300918-hidden-champion-chapters/#findComment-3898939 Share on other sites
markham82
Soul Drinkers. In the first Salamanders book there's the Marines Malevolent( or something like that) that caught my attention, I don't know if there's a lot of fluff on them. Scythes of the Emperor Mortificators in the Ultramarine novels seems like a chapter that would be a lot of fun to build. Conn Eremon
Adding on to this, the two that seem the most popular are the Carcharadons and the Minotaurs, with others including the Fire Angels, Executioners and Star Phantoms, among others. Filius
Thanks a lot everyone! @Strike Captain Lysimachus: I hadn't noticed that Forge World had created sooo many Chapters. I'll keep digging into that. @markham82: Soul Drinkers, of course. Totally forgot about them. Even still have the unread Novella standing around here somewhere. And now that I read the Lexicanum Entry of the Mortificators, I do rember them from the Ultramarine Novels. Spooky Guys. @Cormac Airt: Just stumbled across the Carcharadons today, while wondering wether Tyberos is a Chaos Space Marine or a Loyalist. :D I especially like the Star Phantoms, nice name, nice background. Thanks! @Nineswords: "The Executioners believe that their Chapter was created for the sole task of seeking out and slaughtering Mankind's foes rather than undertaking any more defensive or strategic purpose." … that really sounds worth reading more! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300918-hidden-champion-chapters/#findComment-3899133 Share on other sites
