Lil_Tiki_Boy
I have a 1000pt game against the bugs comin up (first time playing against them) and I'm simply looking for some advice from more veteran players. Was planning on running a single NSF with libby / terminators and 2 DKs with hammers and psycannons. Not entirely sure what to do with the rest of my points. I am thinking either more terminators and adding some weapons to them as well as a second ranged weapon on the DKs or I was also considering taking 2 vindicare assassins and trying to use them and the DKs to snipe his synapse. Stercus
Ally in some scouts? Sounds daft, but they're crazy cheap and can take heavy bolters with hellfire shells. Those suckers blow holes in nids for fun. Everon
Purifiers will have a hay day with hordes, carnis and all their stealth granting units and fliers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300931-fighting-tyranids-at-low-points/#findComment-3899342 Share on other sites
EnterRehab
I've seen a lot of success using flame weapons. I might even be willing to try pyromancy vs. them. Not sure how it'd even go, but it'd be fun! Bionicman
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300316-how-to-handle-hordes-at-low-point-games-update/ just skip all the parts about styling tips and design :) Well yes, purifiers for cleansing flame and you also might want some gatling psilencer against those MCs, don't you? Zeratul29
The two units you should really worry about are flying hive tyrants and venomthropes, other wise you should be fine. Reclusiarch Darius
I've seen a lot of success using flame weapons. I might even be willing to try pyromancy vs. them. Not sure how it'd even go, but it'd be fun! Using Pyromancy by choice is like setting yourself on fire prior to a race. You'll get points for style, but you're still burning yourself to the ground for no purpose. We already have plenty of BBQ going on anyway (incinerators on every unit, 'Cleansing Flame' on Purifiers). Pyromancy is bait for complete newbies, to learn why the witchfire rules are bad. The two units you should really worry about are flying hive tyrants and venomthropes, other wise you should be fine. I was gonna say Crones as well, but seeing as we almost never take vehicles anymore (except maybe Ravens), probably a moot point. I'd also add Biovores and Exocrines to that list. Their ranged damage output is pretty sickening if you're on foot. Exocrines in particular will melt Terminators and Dreadknights if not dealt with quickly. Brom MKIV
Can't say I've played GKs at 1k yet. I usually run DE for level play. That said I'm liking the gat more and more and the incins less and less. In fact my latest lists drop incinerators all together. They put you in harms way for a measly 5 hits give or take. The gat otoh lets you stay at the fringes with some quick math to maximize damage output. This works better against hordes who usually just want to close with you. Also ignoring FNP is fantastic, then consider the threat to big gribblies. Anyway I would recommend gatling guns on any NDKs you bring and strongly consider normal deployment vs. deep striking to maximize firepower and support. If you trim back the front properly it can take them ages to reach you. Reclusiarch Darius
The problem with gatling psilencer (ie the only viable psilencer weapon) is that units that abuse cover saves or take Fortifications/camp in buildings are pretty much immune to it. Even with 'Force' turned on, its still just a 12 shot bolter. I'd still keep 1-2 heavy incinerators in your mix of DK loadouts (always take heavy psycannon first of course), as it lets you deal with Go to Ground+Stealth/Shrouded shenanigans. It's immensely satisfying to delete chaff off objectives. That's the thing that's most powerful about the heavy incinerator, being a Torrent means you're usually in range after Shunting or Jump movement, and being able to place the template at an optimal angle is gold. I'm liking the gat more and more for killing MC's and denying FNP on annoying deathballs/Riptides and such, but heavy incinerators still definitely have a place in a balanced loadout. Brom MKIV
This is absolutely true. Otoh Im currently running double shriek + auspex so my perspective is a little different when evaluating the incinerators contribution. Ishagu
Grey Knights are really effective at killing Tyranids. Flame weapons for the critters, Force weapons for the MCS. Dreadknights should have Psy Cannons and Incinerators. A stormraven is also very effective and useful in case he has a flying Hive Tyrant.
