Question on green stuff

Admittedly, I do not go thru a lot of green stuff, and my last purchase from Gale Force Nine just ran out, so I need to get more.  My question to those who go thru a lot of it, has GW gotten its act together or should I stick with GF9?  Previously I tried the old grey stuff from GW (for those who were not around in third edition, it sucked), and the old green stuff formula they had.  Which because useless about five times faster than GF9, was more difficult to work with, and ohh yeah, cost ten times as much.  So have they improved, or should I just stick with GF9?

Never buy any hobby supplies direct from someone that also sells the games/minis/etc, because they'll gouge you.

Here's where I get mine: http://w.ivenue.com/anythingmechanicalinc/ecommerce/psi-epoxy/kneadatite.html

$12.50 for a 36" roll of the stuff. Supposedly if you tell them you're a sculptor when you order it, you can request some fresher stuff, but I have no idea if that's true or not.

Look into a product called "Milliput". Two part putty, comes in several grades, I think white is the finest. Strong enough to drill and actually tap for threads, so it holds up well in gaming applications.

Also great, but a subtly different product. Not as good for sculpting smaller details on, or as pliable in the same way.

Generally dries harder mind - but good luck sculpting anything into that when dry.

I'd stay away from Milliput as a beginner. It's almost a completely different kind of medium, it dries like concrete so you have to make sure you clean up every little bit of it, and as Chaeron, it's not so great for the small, fine details.

I would say, choose a putty for the object you want to do.

Milliput Standard (i use most time the yellow) is pretty good for things like bases and filling.

Milliput Fine (the white) mixed with some water ist fine to fill small gabs on your miniatures (same for what GW sells their liquid GS but more dilluted if you wish) and to give your miniatures a smoth finish when you cover it.

Green Stuff is ok if you want to do some things on your own, shoulder pads and such things.

Magic Sculp is some fine putty, its more soft and easier to smoth than GS, but it wont be as hard as GS when dried.

Best for me works a 1:1 mix of Green Stuff and Magic Sculp when i want to do something like Banners and such things.

Thanks for the advice. Since I don't really like ribons I'll stick with gf9, and I'll take a look at milliput. While I have used a ton of green stuff I am very much a novice with it. The most complicated thing I can sculpt is hair, but I do a lot of filling from kit bashes and minor alterations.
