Taking out flyers as GK

Thanks Brom. I think in terms of damage output 4 MLs plus a quad gun can actually force more saves and cause more HP than a mm,ac and 4 one shot missiles on infantry, vehicles and flyers. Although someone with math-hammer could probably work it out!

If the aegis was changed to a bastion would that help the survivability?

It's a tough one, the quad gun and missiles are guaranteed on the board, and can possibly do more damage if they don't miss.

But the missiles are snap firing at fliers and the quad gun is snap firing at ground units, so one or the other will probably be wasted at some stage.

Where as a stormraven can shoot both ground and air units, but can potentially be countered by AA or could just not turn up till turn 4...

Id go with the Raven. But if your meta has lots of AA then the missiles

Hey Jbat. The MLs are Flakk so can either fire 4 S4 ap6 small blasts, 4 s8 ap3 or 4 s7 ap4 skyfire so will not be snap firing at fliers.

You are correct on the quad gun however 4 shots with 6s to hit and rerolls should yield an extra hit or 2 at s7 ap4 if no flying targets present themselves. Or the sgt could just fire one of the heavy bolters, whatever seems better at the time. And any emplaced weapons i do not fire manually will shoot under the automatic fire rule

If you are going to be using a NSF for turn one DS then you must use the Comms Relay to benefit that as Brom has said. As im using Drop Pods the Comms Relay isnt required at all for me so i do free up that fortification spot for AA. It is 95 points more than a bare raven. Will try it out and let you guys know how it done post tourney

I do like quad gun in higher points games as the interceptor rules can help blunt the air assault before it gets going.

And for a lot of Xenos air (DE/Eldar/Ork) I've found purifiers fit the bill there too.  I know several of you are using the locator beacon to DS them, it requires some tactical adjustments to make sure the flyers are in the 9" bubble with the ground units you are trying to target.

We used it in an Apoc game a couple weeks back, if you scroll down to the last picture you'll see the placement of a couple of the squads in relation to the enemy flyers:
