Viridia
The last time I was in the halls of the Fang was for this thread; http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/245874-advice-for-a-new-wolf/?p=2974035 In the end, I never got round to doing that army, instead I'm running the idea of a combined army of Marines. While two chapters are relatively codex, I'm running the third, or the War Wyrms, as a counts-as Space Wolves force. It's a mix of SW bitz with some of Spellcrow's Dragon Knight bitz, but the important part there is I've got enough bits for sixteen models. The general plan is a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, five Wolf Guard, and two units of five Grey Hunters. I've got a preliminary army list below; 1x Wolf Guard Battle Leader - 130/120? See Below Runic Armour, replace Chainsword with Thunder Hammer, replace Bolt Pistol with Storm Shield (Not sure if I can give him a ranged option as well as those two, or does the old "two 1x handed weapons or one 1x handed and one 2x handed weapons" rule still exist?) He'd run to about 130 points, or 120 if I bought the Storm Shield from the armoury rather than through his profile (It's listed in the melee weapons at 15 points but his profile says 25 to replace any ranged/melee weapon with it.) 1x Grey Hunter Squad - 90 points 4x Grey Hunters, standard equipment + close combat weapon 1x Grey Hunter, Meltagun to replace his bolter + close combat weapon 1x Grey Hunter Squad - 85 points 4x Grey Hunters, standard equipment + close combat weapon 1x Grey Hunter, Flamer to replace his bolter + close combat weapon 1x Wolf Guard Squad - 195 points 1x Wolf Guard, Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon 1x Wolf Guard, Combi-Flamer, Power Fist 1x Wolf Guard, Close Combat Weapon, Plasma Pistol 1x Wolf Guard, Bolt Pistol, Wolf Claw 1x Wolf Guard, Frost Axe, Bolt Pistol All in all, 500 points of Space Wolf counts-as goodness. Is this a viable little assault force to use as allies for my main (and shootier) Codex army? Frater Cornelius
I consider your Wolf Guard unit abit on the expensive side. I would take 5 guys and only equip two guys with weapons. Put them on bikes to ensure they get there. If you do not want bikes, then a Rhino or Pod will do. They GH and WGBL look fine, but they too will need something to ride in. In the end, allies depend on the main force. Maybe posting your main list will give a better clue? Nadir
You are taking SW just for fun? Or you plan an exact role for them to field? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301121-making-allies-of-wolves/#findComment-3903819 Share on other sites
