Long Fang Tactics

Hi All,

What do you guys think of using a ML2 une Priest with heavy bolter long fangs, and trying to get the power (biomacy I think) to give them relentless.

I have 2 Long fang squads, one with Lascannons and Plasma Cannons which always stay immobile, and use their range to take out priority targets, but I like the idea of attempting to have 5 Heavy Bolters roaming the battlefield. If they get the power off, then they can move and shoot, and if not, they still get 15 shots to snap fire with, giving them a chance for getting a couple of hits per round?

What is the opinion on this? Is it too much of a risk? Obviosly if the RP doesnt get the power when he rolls on the table, you can adjust tactics and seperate the RP from the Long Fangs to use him elsewhere?

While a good idea in itself, Long Fangs are too fragile to be leaving the home ruins. With 36" they can just be content in your deployment zone. I consider it too risky. I mean, I would definitely pack Loth or Tiggy to have a higher chance of rolling it and try it out the the lulz, however Endurance is so powerful, it better used on a higher profile unit that needs the defensive buff.

I'm still sorely tempted to take 3 packs of maxed out Heavy Bolter Long Fangs, plug Ulrik in with them, and use them to shred light infantry and light armor.  I'd be even happier if I could give them autocannons instead.

In that case you will be better served with Quad Heavy Bolter Rapiers. A full unit of three costs 120pts and lets out 18 TLHB shots and comes on a T7 artillery platform for your convenience ;)

The Rapier batteries are pretty hilarious. Three Rapier HB batteries is a fairly efficient way to spend 360 points to murder light infantry. It also makes a nice bunker to stash a Divination Rune Priest in.

Yeah the Rapier is the way better option that HBLF on Foot. More Shoots, More Bodies and better Toughness and relentness for even fewer points is clearly supperior.

Well i Prefer my in a Bunker with ML.

If FW isnt allowed i would suggest LandSpeeder with 2 HB is cost 60points each and are Fast which means 12" and can SHoot both (or 2 HFlamer which could do even more dmg).

The problem with Landspeeders is that they compete for slots with Thundercav, Skyclaws, and the drop pods for the TDAWGs.

Champs of Fenris should've been 8 FA slots. Drop pods and TWC for everyone :D

I like to run my LF in a bunker, sometimes putting Ulrik and another sq on the top of the bunker, or Ulrik inside with a heavy weapon dred on top. Its a tough nut to crack, and provides a nice jumping off point. I find it also invites and alpha strike that thunderwolves are perfect to counter.

I'm not in love with the HB variants, I feel it needs an additional shot or something.

I don't bother with Long Fangs any more. They are to squishy and expensive. A predator with twin-linked Autocannon and heavy bolter sponsons is 20 pts cheaper than 5 long fangs with 4 heavy bolters. While it might put out less shots initially, the twin linked Autocannon makes it more likely to hit and you don't lose shots as it takes damage.

I like long fangs, because I'm building a theme based army. Right now, my army is a hard hitting drop pod army, designed to take the midfield and lock it down. So having the long fangs in the back to keep the pressure on my opponent's vehicles is great. He either ignores my long fangs to take care of what's in his face, and my LF shoot him with impunity, or he tries to get in my rear area to kill my LF, while my close in units tear him apart. I have 4 squads, 1 las, 1plas, 1ML, 1HB. I can mix n' match, or take dedicated squads. With split fire, I can take two threats with one squad.
