Conn Eremon
Well, aside from that quoted bit, it still sounds basic, like any other. But the quoted bit does elevate it, I suppose. I would still say "rends space and time" is greater than "I'm too evil to be destroyed." Of course, for all we know that near-doom it once possessed might have been more on the part of its wielder than it itself. Everon
It as well was tempting the guardians of titans vault, despite being in stasis, and Crowe has awaken to find the blade moves on its own to find another to tempt. Nearly killed imperium and blah blah blah. I say throw the thing in a volcano and have sentry turrets around it. Good luck finding it. If some how you do, not vullet riddled or melted, and the blade isnt either then GK all over you before you get a chance to leave Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301155-new-black-library/page/2/#findComment-3904531 Share on other sites
Wade Garrett
Hmmm....do we have a description or picture of this sword? Because to me, that sounds like it could be the Anathame that corrupted the Warmaster. Conn Eremon
Wasn't it shattered into a bunch of ritual daggers? If it's Heresy related, perhaps the Laer sword, if it's not still in use elsewhere. Could fit as well as the anathame, but more indirectly. Removed one of the most capable Legions from the Imperial side and added more weight to Horus' side, making them more evenly matched. A number of pieces were chipped off to create the Shards of Erebus, but there's enough of the original weapon left for Fabius to be wielding it as a short sword in Angel Exterminatus. Gentlemanloser
It's the Sword Crowe wields in his Codex Picture. I think it's significantly large than the Anathame. Which I remember to be dagger sized. :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301155-new-black-library/page/2/#findComment-3904729 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Nah Antwyr isn't one of the Four, he's a lesser entity that hates them. The reason they can't just lock up the sword or throw it into a volcano is A: it's impossible to destroy and B: a warp entity or possessed mortal could enter such places and retrieve it. That's the whole reason they give it to Crowe. It stays mobile, it can't corrupt him, and thus far the Chapter has kept Crowe alive. Gentlemanloser
I don't think the Black Mace nearly doomed the Galaxy. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301155-new-black-library/page/2/#findComment-3905263 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
All's well! Wasn't Warp Corruption. But Genestealer Infection... So sensationalism to sell an Audio Book. Lagrath
Let's not forget that someone resembling a Grey Knight wandering in the warp, most likely Draigo, was corrupted when Slaanesh personally appeared. Everyone always seems to miss that one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301155-new-black-library/page/2/#findComment-3905885 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
If they actually corrupt a Grey Knight, I'm done with the hobby. Dead set. The lore is just about the only thing keeping me in the game at the moment. No, it would not add an 'interesting' or 'new' dimension to the 666th Chapter to have them fall. They're pure for a reason. They burn through a million recruits (who are themselves ruthlessly culled from an even larger pool of 'this child has above average psychic potential') to produce a single Grey Knight. Their selection criteria mean even a psyker who would've gone on to be an IG battle psyker, or even a lesser Astartes Librarian, will almost always fail. Combine that with the issues of gene-seed implanation/rejection, psychological unsuitability (if they can't break you down etc)...it's actually surprising there are nearly a thousand. You also have to consider that GW have repeatedly backed down from the 5th edition portrayal (which I didn't find that problematic, but hey, subtlety). The reason a Grey Knight won't fall (I'm not saying cannot) is because they choose to remain loyal. That's the whole point. The Emperor can't guarantee that none will fall, because they're still human (barely). They're stronger because they'd rather suffer and die than choose a easier way. If they ever did fall, the Imperium would cease to exist shortly after. So, for both canon and in-universe reasons, Chaos Grey Knights isn't happening. I'm not one for censorship, but this topic is older than even our 3rd edition codex. It's like Chaos Tau or Female Marines, in terms of pointless circular arguments. My bet is this book will tease the prospect, but then a plot twist will avoid it. At least I hope so. If you would like to continue to debate the prospect of the Grey Knights falling to Chaos, take it elsewhere. Whineseer et al regularly have these threads, with predictable results.
