Animal alternative to bikes

Imagine a hypothetical scenario, where I wanted to build a full bike army, without any Thunderwolves.

Hypothetically, I would put the more numerous bikers on regular bikes.

However, what about the hypothetical elite bikers? The best of the best? I feel they need something more flashy.

In that hypothetical scenario, what sort of 'living' mount would fit the following style:

After going through various models, I arrived at Demigryphs and Thunderwolves.
While I prefer Wolves, I have to admit that Demigryphs fit the style rather well.

Opinions on this highly hypothetical scenario? biggrin.png

As I have told you before, I do think the Gryhons are your best option. The are sleeker than really any other option. They can fit into the aesthetics of your concept, and are not horribly expensive to procure.

I recently saw a Blood Angels biker squad converted using wild looking horses. Those would work amazingly well. I have no idea who, what, and where the models came from. Might be worth looking into!!

End of Line

I'd go with : Moose, Elk, Reindeer, Caribou, etc. that would, imo, fit the theme of the above pictures.

Because of the antlers, isn't it? They won't make it into the final product. I was more hinting at the 'feral nordic knight' feel of those imagines, rather than a direct copy of that hypothetical project that does not exist at all at the present time.

I think those were the Blood Knight horses.. you know, those things that cost you 80€ for 5 models :D

And did I ever ask you for bike alternatives? We were talking TWC alternatives at the time, never about bikes :P

But yeah, horses might be an option, although they seem awfully.. vanilla.

My biggest issue with Demigryphs is that they aren't nordic. If I remember correctly, the myth originated in the Mediterranean regions and I have a hard time to draw a good connection to a nordic-style army.

But you are right, they are more sleek and fit bikes better than TWC. Those are a tough to bulky to comfortably fit on a bike base.

...Yeah it was the antlers.

Gryphons/Hippogryphs (theres a difference!) are good choices. Maybe giant Rams?

Having spend my fair share of time in the Warcraft universe, I always associate Hippogryphs with dirty friggin' (Night) Elves. They are filthy, arrogant, smug, have amazingly shaped buttocks, slender bodies, smooth skin... sorry, what was I talking about?

Anyway! Yeah, I am looking into how I could make the Empire Demigryphs look more rugged and nordic.

Having played a Night Elf for the Longest time (and a Draenei and now a Blood Elf) I getcha. I really do.... >_>

To make them more Nordic, go full stereotypes. Beer/Ale/Booze Horns/Kegs, Heraldic Shields, Wood Ornaments, Etc.

...Or you could go with Rams. Giant Rams. With big curling horns tougher than steel. And RAM your opponents with them.

I keep looking at these bionic bears and thinking they would make an interesting alternative mount for a character....

I actually keep looking at a lot of their range of Celtic scifi models and thinking they would be good for SW conversions.

I play an Orc Warrior, nuff said :P Rams, like the ones the Dwarves ride, you mean? :D

I like them, but I am hesitant, because they are supposed to be bikes and bikes are agile and damn fast. That is the reason why Bears and Rams won't quite fit the bill. They would do fine as a TWC, but as I mentioned, no TWC here.

@ Donkalleone - I suggest you go read the original post again. I said a pure bike army without any TWC...

Digging deep in the brain-barrel here:

How bout:

Drakes? Y'know wingless dragons and considerably smaller?

Giant Felines? Hesitant about this one since y'know...Space Wolves riding Cats. Might make for some great Irony (is that the word I'm looking for?)

Manticores?

Chimera?

..at this point I was about to google a list of mythical creatures and just slap any four-legged ones in :p

Well to the Topic then.

Disregarding the Bears , dont get me wrong i love them, but 25Bucks each is a hefty price.

Maybe a look at the Ogre Mounts or Boars?

Heh, Ogre mounts barely fit on a TWC base. How are they supposed to fit on a bike base? :D

Myself, I am shifting towards wolves. Why? Because having a robed but wild knight sit on a wolf while holding a custom bolter (the TL-Bolter of a bike) and aiming it while the wolf is riding look kinda awesome. It has the feeling of furious speed, not something I feel when looking at Demigryphs.

On the other hand, Demigryphs are the best non-bike models to be put on a bike base, including a rider. It would also be possibly, to attach the TL Bolters to the sides, seeing as the head is placed way higher. The Demigrpyh box also includes some amazing bits. However, they do not feel nordic enough.

It is basically the dilemma between technical and visual.

Why not the FW outrider bikes for your elites?

Not animals, but suitably elite lookin when compared to the standard gw bikes..

The reason is because my main HQ is mounted on a pretty big animal. Having just the main dude riding one and the rest on normal bikes sort of does not fit with me. I wanted to have some sort of visual hierarchy, with the main dude riding a big winged animal, the elites riding smaller animals and the regular dudes riding bikes.

MY Favorites that are still "avordable" are these and you can easely indentify the leader.

these are pretty awful looking , maybe its how they are painted but jeez ... ugly pigs ... they dont even look like they could support power armor

For elite: normal horses but with... chariot. That will give you a reason to use bigger bases. For warboss/ lord, a chariot with 4 mounts.

Okay, that is an absolutely kick-ass idea. While too big to be considered bikes, I think this is a marvelous idea for Land Speeders.
