Charlo
With a Command Squad armed with a couple Storm Shields for taking wounds and coming down Turn 1 in a Drop Pod. I think that this is a really cool and fluffy idea, tool them up with some melta and you have a pretty nasty and resilient unit with 3++ and FNP! Pop a transport then send them at the gooey innards, company champion can take the challenges where necessary! EDIT: Although is the Squad a second full HQ Choice? Gaweda
Command squad is an elite choice. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301237-where-does-mephiston-belong/page/2/#findComment-3907135 Share on other sites
Daddywarcrimes
I like the idea of theCommand HQ with storm shields and plasma guns in a pod as a bunker for Mephiston and another Librarian. It even gives me a way to use the sweet, sweet Breacher Siege Squad legionnaires in my army. knife&fork
Lib dread is the new Mephiston. Totally immune to many forms of damage. Vulnerable to others ( melta for the dread, massed AP2/rending or ID for old Meph) Death to vehicles and MCs, vulnerable to getting bogged down in infantry if he doesn't get all the right buffs. With the lib dread you always have AP2 and S10 at initiative, no need to get psychic powers through. Also means less need for additional warp charge. With the lib dread you can concentrate on the sanguinary powers, there's never a need to make a split between biomancy and sanguinary in hopes of getting the 'right' power for a game. Rolling on the BA warlord traits you have a good chance of getting a nice passive buff as well. If you want the old wrecking ball Mephiston then you take new lib dread, 75 pts less too if you are worried about having points in reserve. Mephiston is now more like an expensive captain with no invul and no option for bike or jp. He can chew through 3+ like a boss, but being 'only' a lvl 3 psyker with one of his powers fixed makes him pigeonholed into a fighter rather than a fighter/buffer. I do think that the command squad is the best option presented so far. With 2+ 5++ FnP he can tank a bit, and FnP also makes the obligatory storm shields less prone to bolter death. With battleforged and personal warlord traits he's got a fair chance of getting another boost.
