Joasht
I personally own all the Imperial armies (except Sisters), and my GKs are languishing in my storage. I'm not particularly interested in using them as a main army in this current edition, but it does feel like a waste to keep them shelved away for an extended period of time. That said, what do you think of GKs as allies; what would you take, and with which Imperial army? To be honest, I see almost no reason to take them as allies unless I wanted to splash in some psychic phase support (which even then I'm probably more likely to take either Inquisitor Coteaz or a Culexus to simply shut psykers down), or if I wanted to splash in a single Terminator unit for defensive purposes in my AM army (a role much better filled by a Knight, IMO). Or are GKs most effective when fielded as the major army, to get all those psychic dice? Thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks! jeffersonian000
GKs made a better NSF than they do an Allied Formation. For effectively the same units, you get Rites of Teleportation. Worth looking into. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301273-gks-as-allies/#findComment-3905806 Share on other sites

Brom MKIV
As a competitive allied force you get lots of warp charge a ml3 librarian draigo and NDKs all with rites. Add purifiers to that list if using FA pods. Definitely some great tools and most allies will cover the inherent weaknesses of GK. Landrick
i like an ML3 libby, a TDA squad(they can do so much!), and a NDK in the NSF. it is 5 dice and a lot of tough, flexible units to aid my main force Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301273-gks-as-allies/#findComment-3905960 Share on other sites
Everon
So why ally Grey Knights? Well a cheap level 3 Librarian is a good start. For use or just defence to counter pyskers with the staff, pyschic hood, and aegis, you will dispel a heck of a lot. So besides a cheap libby what else is there to offer as allies? Storm bolters beat out boltguns every day and free ap 3 weapons with the ability to instant kill monstrous creatures and multiwound characters. To throw in the pot as well our strike force formation fits as an allied detachment with the benefit of deepstriking almost our entire army turn one. Nemesis Dreadknights are another good reason why and fast attack Storm Ravens. So that should be a few good reasons why we make good allies. Its what we got remade to be. Who we are best to be allies for? Imperial Guard being cheap as well as the inquisition and sisterhood suit us best, especially since we bring in that tougher stronger factor they dont have While they have the numbers we lack. We still have specialties that some space marine armies complement well, but its the other imperial forces that can offer the widest variety Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301273-gks-as-allies/#findComment-3906115 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Nemesis Strikeforce. Even in our normal lists, its just about the only detachment type we use nowadays. Turn 1 Deepstrike, plus Run+Shoot. Pretty sweet. Units you'd probably want; Dreadknights: The main reason you'd even consider us. If FMC's didn't exist, he'd be considered the most overpowered MC out there. As is, he's pretty good, but has his weaknesses. Purifiers: Take a 5-man unit, put them inside a Raven or drop pod. Land deep in enemy lines, cast 'Cleansing Flame', enjoy the BBQ. Terminators: You need to take 1 Troops anyway, and they're some of the best in the game. 'Objective Secured' doesn't matter, as you'll usually just obliterate whatever you're fighting on an objective anyway. jeffersonian000
NSF is a better detachment than the Allied Detachment. GK should never be taken as an Allied Detachment. Ishagu
There are no LoW slots in an allied detachment. Who says anything about a crummy allied detachment? The NSF detachment requires only a single hq and troop but has none of the regular allied limitations, and it also permits a LoW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301273-gks-as-allies/#findComment-3907232 Share on other sites
