And if you could please tell me what kit Leto's shoulder pads come from? I like the flared trim with rivets and want to use them on some of my own terminators.

I believe that all of the bits used to build the terminator captain come from the Deathwing Command Squad box. Everything except the shield, head and pturges that is.

Thanks! I've put a lot of thought into each of the miniatures, glad that it's communicating to people.

I believe that all of the bits used to build the terminator captain come from the Deathwing Command Squad box. Everything except the shield, head and pturges that is.

This man's got the right of it. That box has been a treasure trove for me, as the eventual pictures of my Terminators will show.

Anyway, I've spent a truly embarrassing amount of time this week on a single miniature. One thing I cooked up for this squad is a pair of specialists that act as Junior versions of Apothecaries and Techmarines. They're not fully inducted into either specialty, but given the range of missions undertaken by the squad, they're a useful asset. The Techmarine is in progress, awaiting a couple of bits to arrive, so I've been working on the Apothecary. I wanted a pose that would communicate a relaxed but watchful stance. He's aware of both danger and duty, but neither has entirely arrived yet. Here's what I've got:

Obviously, he's missing that arm - all of these guys will be getting two hands/arms/weapons (depending on what's necessary) that can be stuck to them to change armament between a combi-weapon, or a sturdy Sternguard bolter. Here's a really quick sketch of how I'm thinking of finishing him up:

love the drum mag pistol, and have to say, the idea of junior apothecaries is a really cool one! squad medics have been one of the things i'd always thought space marines really needed rather than one per hundred men as the codex would have it.

also, glad to be a part of that some, 1998 was a good year.

ya i turn 17 in just under 2 months, i've been collecting 40k models for coming on 7-8 years now, (well, by collecting i mean barely cutting out the marines from the black reach kit and shoving them together without even cleaning them. )

what may make you feel worse is that i haven't even played a game yet, sooooo you have 18 years of tabletop experience on me....

Weeeeellllll.... Us young folk still have yet to make a solid name for ourselves in the model making world, the more experienced bunch out here are simply drowning us in amazing work that we can only DREAM of replicating or matching. Y'all got that going for ya at the minimum! (for now..... )

Wow, thats 20 years now, and I still think I have my first Space Marine model from back then. Not so with my Skaven army.

Aw jeez, you all are making be feel positively ancient for having started way back in 1990, before cell phones, the internet, and during the heyday of CD music, and VHS movie rentals. You know, way back when mammoth were still being hunted for food over here in Canada. I can still remember celebrating the opening of the very first GW shop in North America; being in Toronto of all places, it was actually close enough for me to visit in person. Oh well, we all walk our own path.

 

More on topic, this is a perfect example of how taking time to customize the pose of a model, even if it's just subtle changes, can have a dramatic effect on the mood of the model. It's worth the time and effort if you're happy with the result. Sometimes these ideas come together very quickly, other times they are painfully slow. Don't worry about the pace, (it comes and goes) but what the outcome is. In this case it's great, he has an unflinching feel, like he rarely ducks or protects himself (as his role dictates) and the bionic arm reinforces that image.

Anvil Industries' "Exo-Lord" bionic arms. All of the bionic limbs (arms and legs) in this squad have come from that shop, as I love the look. Not too bulky, and they don't call too much attention to themselves, but they're still recognizably not part of the Power Armor.

Unfortunately, in my case, bi-weekly workplace Tabletop Gaming Club meetings are sort of driving the schedule of making these Marines, so I can't help but feel a bit ashamed of my slow pace. That said, I'll take a good result over a quick one, so the others at my club are just going to have to live with proxies until these guys are tabletop-ready.

Love the new guy, Lexington, and very cool idea with the "not-quite-TechMarine or Apothecary"! Really like the bionic arm and your plans for the bolter holding one. Always like seeing the round clip pistols as well, it's a very cool bit from the RWBK kit. Really like the assembled Terminator Captain, very cool using that ornate storm shield from the Masters of the Chapter set.

 

Everything is looking very cool, but it needs some paint. :devil:

Coming soon! Honestly, I've not put paint to brush in so long, it's sort of a question if I still have the ability. Used to at least have the basics down some years back, and I've been paying attention to this guy's helpful painting steps over on Facebook, so hopefully it shouldn't take too long to get my skills up to the point where I feel OK with painting the Auroras again.

I've got a big bucket of gratitude towards the lot of you for keeping up with the thread. It keeps me on track, which is a difficult thing at the best of times (note the new 'Spawn' banner in my sig - guess who failed yet another Call of Chaos challenge?), and the feedback is always helpful and smile-inducing. Y'all's the best.

So, now, more pictures!

Techmarine:

This guy's still very WIP. Besides the ugly mold line running down the side of the helmet, you'll note that the servo arm is only loosely blu-tac'd on to the backpack. Said backpack's just a stand-in 'till I can get a hold of a Devastator Sgt. Signum pack, which the servo arm will be grafted onto. I'll also be shaving the Opus Machina off of an SM vehicle sprue torso and sticking it in that blank chest area.

This guy ended up being defined less by his pose than his equipment/shape, what with the bulkier backpack and legs, techie helmet, etc. The goal here is to to make both the and the Jr. Apothecary slightly distinctive, but not so much that they stand out from the rest of the squad entirely. Hope that's worked!

You can also sort of see my basic plan for how the Sternguard will be made modular with this guy - each Marine will have two guns (that modular Combi-Weapon seen above, and a special Sternguard Bolter I'm crafting up right now) that can be clipped on, via tiny magnets, to an arm, a strap, or some other appropriate area on the miniature. The Combi-Weapon base will have a further small magnet on top, and will be able to be clipped to any of the secondary special weapons that these guys could conceivably be armed with.

Yes, that's probably crazy, but I've got a magnetization obsession that must be sated. Blame this guy for starting me down that dark path.

There's more in the works for the Sternguard, both for models that haven't been pictured yet, and a slight re-work of the CC specialist (or 'Mr. Wetworks,' as I've started calling him), but nothing that's ready to be shown yet. Instead, I finished up a long in-progress model for my eventual Honor Guard Squad - The Chapter Champion:

The (sadly OOP) Veteran model that this guy's based off of is, I think, one of the best Space Marine models ever produced. It says so much with so little. The pose just screams cool, competent readiness, and I absolutely love it to pieces. With that in mind, I wanted to change as little about the model as I could. Sadly, it was really difficult to get one whose face wasn't marred by a slipped mold line, so it necessitated a new head.

As said upthread, I'm a Michigan State alum, so of course he's got a crest, and of course the Aurora's Chapter Champion is known as "The Spartan." Might be over-doing things, but I love me some Green and White.
