Blood Angels - The Plog

Recommended Posts

Greetings, Brothers!

As the new year began, I made a resolution. I want to put together and fully paint a whole new Blood Angels army until the end of march. I'm going to use this plog to motivate myself, as I'm quite a slow (and time-lacking) hobbyist. This is the humble beginning of my journey:

Wish me luck! I'm going to need it! msn-wink.gif

Go and plunder Castorama or any other DIY store. Actually, it's not cardboard - it's corkboard and they sell it in sheets large enough to base a few armies. It's also quite cheap - for tons of basing material I paid like 10 EUR.

Happy you like the bases. My regular opponents won't; they're playing chaos :)

I have much respect for someone who starts from the ground up - or in the case - from the base up. Too often is basing left behind or forgotten and it really ties the army together once everything is painted.

Great start here and woe to the conquered traitors.

A small update for now. I know I'm not being original at all, but I made a "classic" kitbash of Dante. I would have bought the official mini, but it's temporarily out of stock and, to be honest, I prefer the look of sanguinary-Dante. And Emperor, I hate finecast.

I only need to drill the barrel of his inferno pistol. I also couldn't resist but include a slight Spiderman reference. I guess wrist mounted weapons have such an effect on me. So, here's my Dante:

I'm also working on my 15 Death Company models and I'm going to post some pictures soon. Unfortunately for me, I've decided to extensively magnetize them, so I can swap the loadout whenever I feel like it.

I actually like the 32mm bases for marines. Because I'm just starting the army, the change doesn't bother me at all and I am fond of the look. Bigger bases make marines look suitably imposing.

Brothers, I'm glad you're telling that, because I'm not so sure about it myself. Fortunately it can be easily fixed. I'll think about it and will probably change The Hand smile.png

Disagree with the two above. Really dig that hand pose with the melta. Speaks of the graceful brutality the Blood Angels are famous for.

I got the idea from Spider-man, but I kept it for a slightly... effeminate look. I'm not yet sure if I like it :)

Some slow progress on Dante. I decided to keep the effeminate hand. The gold needs a few more layers to get even coverage and then lots of work to make it look three dimentional.

Another small update with more work done on the gold. Now it's time to clean up the armor, highlights and details.

Thanks, Brothers. The first step was a coat or two of army painter's spay primer (desert yellow). Then I washed him quite heavily with some remnants of Devlan Mud I had and coated him with a few thin layers of water-based liquid gold paint I bought at a DIY store. IMO it works even better then Vallejo liquid gold, as it's much easier to use, but requires more layers. One wash of Agrax Earthshade and done.

This is the paint:

This is a 59 ml bottle and it cost me about 3 EUR/4USD. Very cheap paint with very good effect.

A small update. I should find some more time to paint, this is going waaay to slow for my taste.

Thank you. Sanguinary Guard box is a mine full of wonderful conversion bits. And the SG itself is also quite a useful little unit.

I'm not to happy about the whites. The left shoulder pad is definitely botched and I need to cover up the overspilt paint. Apart from that, I need to take care of all the purity seals, scribble Dante's name on the right pauldron, "power-up" the axe and paint a few more highlights.
