My bases are the last thing I usually paint,,,(I.m not sure why most folks now dont paint the rim of the bases) I paint the rim in a golden brown, usually building up a couple layers then I use paint to cover the base under the figure and dip it in my flock mix, which is a mixture of different flocks and train model flock.

Heres a small update of the touched up CCS and pcs's

I reworked the command group adding more detail bits and touched up the paint job, changed the MOO to look more like the rest of the artillery crews in blue and red,he looked abit too much like a commissar,

For the pcs's I touched up the paint and converted the basic troopers to have grenade launchers, and working with metal is rather tedious,

pcs1

and finally Ive begun working on my flamer rough riders,,I extended the flamer tips as the normal ig flamer looked abit like if it went off it would cook the horses face off

wip flamer rr's

Once I am done converting the flamer troopers up I am going to go back through the 3 squadrons, touching up the paint here or there as needed and add more highlights

Seems every time I work on things I get just abit better, but the one thing I seem to forever struggle with is faces,so I usually just wash then in a flesh wash,

Then its onto my artillery carriages

Flamer rough rider conversions done, spending the morning touching up their paint jobs, hope to have some pics this evening..

however as I paint I wonder,,,might it not be a good idea to swap the two priests for commissars,,,theyre ld9 stubborn rule would most likely mean the conscript squads they would be joining aren't going anywhere and the priests special rules only apply to cc of which i try to keep them out of at all costs and use them as a cheap screening force and firing line.

posting via my phone as my laptop has died hoping to post pics with my gf,s pc later.   the mammoth task of reworking my army is almost done.   here's a run down of what I've done thus far repanted 40 troopers as conscripts, touched up my pcs and platoon squds, built, converted 3 vet squds, converted 6 flamers and touched up my rough riders, painted 2 commisars to replace the priests i dropped from the list, rebased and touched up my hwts and gun crews,,,,all thts left is my counts as wyvern

How about horse drawn thud guns, put on a base to create the footprint?maximal height could be shown by some antennas?

Edit, note that this could allow for some excellent dioramas, for example one crewmember calming the horses while others fire the detached thudd gun.

Great job on the painting, can't tell too well from the pics maybe the white could do with some depth. I'm partial to a red coated guardsman. The conversions are really well done too must of been a right pain on the old metal mordian models. Two things could help to give you depth on skin and faces, put a flat colour down (Cadian flesh, bugmans etc) then added a wash over, then put the original flat colour on the face leaving the wash in recesses or you could dry brush highlights.

I rather like the idea of using horse as ive got extra that would be great he limber team which should be close to the height of a chimara a d extra riders that should be close to 3 inchs and limber bits and lots of stowage and whats nots for the horses to carry thees that should work indeed thanks

Le-sigh,,,,and its finished.

A quick run down of army stats

2 earthshaker batteries

another serving of pie via the MOO

Wyvern battery

12 lascannon batteries

6  autocannons-4 via platoon squads and the quadgun

9 melta guns

12 grenade launchers

6 flamers

And

184 troopers

for the wyvern I ended up dropping the limber teams as they made the footprint too large. For line of site and what not the heavy bolter gun wheels are the same height as a chimera hull and the missle tips are 3 inches tall for the top of the gun shield.I am going to add a small tree and some bushes to the base of it when  I get a chance to get to a hobby store,

Hope these come out ok and show all the blending and shading and over all detail. The flash kept washing everything out.
