lt051
Hope this is the right place for this: So I just picked up a fine cast techmarine for my greyknight army, and while the helmet looks cool, I'd like to replace it with a normal greyknight PA helmet. Also want to do the same with a termi helmet on a librarian. What would be the best way to remove the heads? I'm mainly worried about damaging or cracking the rest of the model. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Which techmarine model? Depending on features around the head, it might be relatively simple or tricky. For most amputations in Finecast, I use an old X-Acto blade that had the tip broken off for some reason, and basically just use it like a chisel - put the edge against the part where you want to cut the part off and lightly tap the back of the handle with something to drive it through. lt051
Sorry don't have a picture on me atm, but it's the one from the techmarine+servitors set. I was considering using a pinvice to drill most of the head out and scrape away the rest, but I'm not too familiar with resin or how easy/hard it is to damage Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301487-finecast-helmet-swap/#findComment-3909773 Share on other sites
Chaeron
If you're fine with losing that head, then any of the above would work without issue. Saving the head may be somewhat more difficult! Brother-Chaplain Kage
Yeah, my suggestion was mostly for trying to save the part for the bits box. I have the bare headed version of that model, and there's not much around the head to worry about damaging, so take it off however works best for you. If you're not comfortable with my first suggestion, you could use a hobby blade or some sprue clippers to take small pieces off until you've removed the whole thing. Dom_
The easiest way would be to use some needle nose pliers, grab, twist and pull. It wouldn't save the head, but it would probably work well. Depending on the model, you may be able to use the fine detail sprue cutters and cut it off. Lucien Eilam
I would not advise trying to twist it off. It sits flush with the torso and the armour is built up around the back of the helmet. Just a solid block. There's a high risk of tearing up the torso armour, if it even works at all. Personally, my approach in cases like this is to clip as much away as possible, then hollow out the rest with a Dremel engraving cutter. As it's Finecast, if you don't have a Dremel you could probably make do with a lot of cutting and scraping with a hobby knife. lt051
Thanks for all the advice! Ya the head was attached on 4 faces, so there wasnt much to twist, but cutting what I could and using a pinvice and exacto for the rest worked pretty well imo I couldn't get the head to sit as low as the original, but with the added stuff around the shoulders I think it looks ok. Thanks again for the help guys! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301487-finecast-helmet-swap/#findComment-3910344 Share on other sites
