Thunderwolf Cavalry And Killing Friendships

Lord Blackwood

Have you ever had one of your friendships murdered by yer thunderwolf cavalry just running over an enemy.

I was running 20GH 15 cavalry 2 iron priests and a Krakenbone wolf Lord ( so you know , regular stuff )

I starched my buddy so badly that I didint even lose a model wiping him nearly off the board by turn 3. I thought it was fairly funny casual and fluffy to just unleash the hounds and such but he got really mad about it and I lost a friend.

Have you ever played against someone who got really upset with you not because of how you acted but what you played?

LOL can't say I have, but then again a real friend wouldn't be lost due to a bad game or a bad day. Real friends stay and don't fight over the petty things. It can go both ways if he pulled out all the works against you. But a real man wouldn't walk away because of a loss. What a joke...

Take responsibility for what you bring onto the table and never forget to enjoy and have fun with the hobby. Nobody should ever ruin it by overkill or playing to win. Represent the sons of Russ the way it's intended.

man you would cringe if you read my fluff >.>
You shouldn't care regardless of what anybody thinks about your fluff. It's your fluff for a reason. My words were merely more about the principles and intent.

As for winning and losing games. If people play only to win they wouldn't cherish nor understand the meaning of the word of they never felt defeat and the lessons behind them. Maybe one day your friend will understand that...

I can't say that I've experienced that. I have a friend who thought he may experience that. He played his black templars against my wolves (before I really started to get the hang of them), and he had me tabled by the end of turn 2. It sucked, I learned a lot, It was not a fun game, it felt like playing chess with my brother (he's very good at chess, tournament level skill, and I'm like a monkey with a hammer by comparison). I didn't get upset, how could I be, his dice rolls were mostly crap, but he still killed everything I had. I told him not to play that list against me again until I got better. He can't play his templars, no one will play against them because he plays them like templars. Angry teutonic knights in space, his list is fast, hits like a sack of bricks, and cares nothing for friendly fire. He will shoot vindicators at a target that's an inch from one of his units. I found it hard to beat, until now. I just have to do it to him first.

Your friend, will either get over it, or he won't. It's a game, it's nothing to get butthurt about. He needs to sack up and talk it out. Bad days happen, I have them, and when I do, it's usually because some improbably dumb crap happens, like losing 5 termies to 5 lasgun shots. I don't usually stay upset. I took an anti-DA list against an ork horde list, deployed it badly, and lost terribly. I had never played this individual before, had no idea what to expect, and he didn't go easy (He didn't know that I had all of 4 months experience actually playing the game, and badly I might add, to his years, despite me being in the hobby since 3rd ed). I wasn't upset at him, he played the game, and he was a good sport. I played badly, and was pissed at myself for being overconfident, and not taking the time to choose/build a more rounded list.

My judo sensei once told me, "You learn more from one loss than you do from ten victories."

I now make sure the I bring lots of infantry. 20 at least, and I now have an anti horde list, to take against orks and nids.

I laughed :D

Seriously though, tell him to man up. What the hell is he playing. Sissy Ultramarines? :D

Anyway, I have had plenty of one sided games, on both ends, but no one (including me) was ever an ass-hat about it, so it's all good. Not saying you are, either ;)

Thunderwolves aren't even that good in comparison to a lot of the stuff available to other codecies. There is one guy I've seen whos burnt a lot of bridges running super competitive lists, usually involving at least 2 knights, that he plays against some of the less-experianced players who visit our LGS. Usually 2 knights, several flyers, alpha strike, the kind of stuff you just cant deal with unless you know what youre doing.

Thunderwolves? Nah, theyre not something you need to tailor a list to deal with like knights or flyers. Tell your friend to man up, they die when they roll 1s and 2s like everything else.

Yeah wow, your buddy needs to "nut up or shut up". At the end it's a game if someone seriously gets angry for losing a game on a personal level there actually might be some chemical imbalances upstairs. Everyone even the best of players has had games go extreme both ways it's the way this game works some times and if you cant move past that then maby this isn't the hobby for him, seeing as how this game is literally based on war, death, sadness, and oh look at that backstabbing then I think going in any player should understand it's nothing personal to win.

On the flip side it is no fun to completely table an opponent, nor is it fun to completely get tabled, so when designing your list at least for causal games make sure it is going to be a closeish game in order to make it funner for both. If you make a lame op list for tournament's then I get it as everyone should be bringing their A game.

@ Ulrik_Iron fist wish I could meet this Templar player as I just would like to see how he uses them, because I just don't see BT as extremely competitive in any fashion anymore, it's not that they can't be it's just I haven't really tried once GW gave them the stiff one (and by that I mean I haven't built a single list or pulled them out of their cases) I just don't see anything that they can do, that one of the other marine chapters can't do better.

I've had a few crushing victories against others, tabling people by turn 2 or 3 but no-one has yet made a big deal about it, fun games, with cordial players, and everyone had a laugh about it in the end.

However I've played a couple of people who either ran lists, or whose attitudes were so bad that I didn't feel like playing them again. It comes down to how your approach the game, if your trying to have fun then it doesn't really matter, but if winning is the only object for a player, there's no fun in it and no point for an opponent to play that person.

My friend and I play each other and are very competitive. We game every few weeks and a loss will stick with either of us for a while! The gaming aspect is important to me, the stakes are high because we both care a lot, and talk a lot of trash to each other, which is fun for me in a non traditional sense.

I always host, build the table, make lunch, let him hit my bong, but still try to smash him off the table by turn 3. I think we may be lucky with matched skills/interest and codecies, so that has probably only contributed to a sense of escalation.

I also just finished 11 mounted models, and since then have only played a 2v2 with his as my ally. I will let you know if i get unfriended
