Nova_chron
like the title says I have a friend who is starting up 40k and looking at space wolves I have a decent collection of them and have offered to play 100 points wolves against BA I already have my BA list written up looking for advice on what a balanced wolves army would be at that range not trying to power game either army... any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have not put the wolves on a table in quite some time. Leif Bearclaw
Best advice I can give is play more points. 100 is absolutely tiny, you want at least 500 to get a worthwhile game. But I'll assume that's a typo, and you meant 1000 points. A couple of GH squads in the transport of your choice/availability makes for a solid core. Either a WP or RP as your HQ, thern add in a couple of Dreads or tanks for support. Then if you have a few spare points either Lone Wolf or Land Speeder to run interference. That's what I'd go for a 'beginner' 1k army. Frater Cornelius
Grey Hunters is always a good place to start. At smaller games the Rune Priest is your HQ of choice. Now think about how you want to get your dudes to the front lines. Do you prefer Rhinos or Drop Pods? Vykryl
Was gonna say 100 isn't even kill team. You need at lest 200 to start and that's only a Battle Leader and two packs of 5 troops with 2-3 upgrades between the three units. Battle Leader Bolt Pistol/Power Sword Grey Hunters x5 Bloodclaws x5 Give one squad a flamer and your at 200. One way to teach/learn is restrictions on options. I've played a couple games with my cousin and been wiped out by him fielding his Chaos Dreads and Defilers against Grey Hunters with me trying to learn the basic rules. The last game I said 500 points and a unit can only be 20% of the total points. He played Chaos TDA and cultist squads against HB Long Fangs, Grey Hunters, Wolf Scouts and a single Thunderwolf (new codex just came out and I was still using 5th edition). It was nice to see how different units worked and interacted and have a chance to learn the rules at the same time.
