Murderfang and BA Allies

Now, this is a pretty specialized approach, but imagine Murderfang, which is already pretty ridiculous once he gets into assault, working with an allied BA Librarian, Tac Sqad, and Stormraven, plus a Skyshield Landing Pad

 

-Librarian (with 2 inferno pistols) and Tac Squad (2 inferno pistols and a melta gun) all ride in the Stormraven

-Murderfang also rides in the Stormraven

-Stormraven is placed on Skyshield, enabling it to start the game on the board.

-Turn 1, Stormraven moves 12", shoots, then jinks (to maximize chance of survival)

-Turn 2, Stormraven moves 6", disembarks Tac Squad and Libby, who pop open an enemy transport (or weaken a non-vehicle unit) with their shooting. Murderfang also disembarks 6"

-Librarian casts The Quickening on Murderfang and then (with the help of Fleet from the Quickening) he charges the most opportune unit.

-Depending on the D3 roll for Rampage and the D3 roll for the Quickening, Murderfang will have between 9 and 13 attacks on the charge, all at S8 AP2, with Shred, MCed (twice) re-rolls, WS5, and will strike at Initiative 5-7.

 

Pretty much any unit in the game will get eaten alive by this, especially if Murderfang gets the higher initiative from the Quickening. Overall, this is a lot to invest to simply get the Murderfang safely and effectively into combat, but if done properly, could be quite potent.

 

Also, the BA Libby, Tac Squad, and Stormraven all can be included from a simple Allied detachment and are useful for other reasons beside just escorting Murderfang (Libby gives Psychic dice combines with Tacs to give more melta weapons, Tacs have cheap Obj Secured, Storaven provides great anti-flyer and solid gunship support, etc.).

 

Even the Skyshield is not "wasted" since you can still use it to protect your Long Fangs or Predators or other fire support units all game long, giving them a very valuable 4++ for cheap points cost.

I do think its a lot of specialized building, but you are right in that none of the units would be unused or hindering in any way.
