IV Blitz Army Group

So, for better or for worse, a friend who has more free time than I offered and promptly assembled 3 unwrapped boxes of Guardsmen for me. Two infantry squads and a company command squad. Thus my allied IG detachment received a significant boost in manpower and I figured it was time to start working on some tasty fluff for them.

As I've mentioned before, I'm primarily a treadhead and will focus on purchases that increase my Leman Russ list. Hence why this won't be a Cadian Army group.

The Blitz Army Group will be composed of two Regiments:

1483rd Blitz Armored Regiment 'The Dragons'

54th Cadian Infantry Regiment ['Rolling Thunder']

And....I'm not really sure where to go from here.  If nothing else, I'll be using this topic to post updates, photos (whenever I figure out how to upload them), and battle reports.

Speaking of battle reports, how well does an IG army work that has two Leman Russes, Company Command, 3 Infantry Squads, and 1 Heavy Weapons squad as its own battleforce?

ah a mixed regiment, good (have you considered naming them dragoons instead of dragons? ;) )! will they be unified in colours and equipment or not? since both options can be really cool! If not, consider using alternative models for your tank commanders since you don't need to show that many of them.It will also help to differentiate between them.

My regiment is the armoured cadian 812th, with all of its infantry mounted safely in chimeras as iron fist squads, however my tank crew has a different colour sheme than my line infantry (german grey vs camouflaged green/brown). all my armour has a unified WWII german camo though since they had time to do this on transit to their next warzone. will you do something similar? have you thought about paintshemes yet?

for pictures i prefer to use photobucket, since it's so easy to upload from multiple sources (cellphone, laptop,..)

the army you mentioned can work, but it's not optimal and rather static. consider getting at least 2-3 chimeras to help you win maelstrom games before you get more leman russ

ALSO: read our topic about magnetisation. It will be worth it!

Don't forget the B&C has a capable gallery too, here's the magnetising tutorial :) The detailed background can come later, you've already done the main thing of deciding how your army is formed. Like hendrik said how unique will you make each part of your Guard? As for your army that is more of a solid core to a Guard army, again as hendrik said some mobility would help and maybe some more troopers if possible.

I hope to see this topic fill up with pictures and blurb about the VI Blitz soon :tu:

There is some legitimacy to your suggestion, hendrik, however these names are personal to me. When I first enlisted, (though I was a trucker) the unit I did Basic training with were the Delta Dragons of the 54th Engineering BN. While the last unit I served in (oh wow, this is my first full year as a civilian, now that I think about it) was the 1483rd Rolling Thunder.

For color schemes, I'm kinda settling on one for the Dragons, mostly urban camo with one unique feature. How much of the main barrel(s) are colored red is an indication of length of service. For main colors, I'm trying to evoke dragons, while being practical. (My Blood Angels are the ones who can afford to stand out on the battlefield and make targets of themselves.) Colors I'm thinking of are red, black, or blue or some combo with possible gold trimmings.

The Cadians I'm extremely tempted to use the standard color scheme with personal touches to tell them apart.

I've heard much of the venerable Chimera, even has the ability to give out orders with the appropriate leadership squad. I'm curious, though. If you're using one for your CCS/PCS, doesn't that mean to get the most mileage out of the orders, you want to leave everyone else dismounted?

Also, I am a big supporter of magnetization, though I've yet to master my technique. My first LR was a black-painted Chaos variant that is in need of clensing, but I bought the 2nd one pure and proper. It's been magnetized to switch between either an Exterminator or a Vanquisher. My typical allied IG set-up is to put the Tank Commander in the Vanquisher and use the other one as an Exterminator and give the 'Split Fire' order to utilize long-range firepower in support of my BA.

That sounds cool, a nice darker red would look good on the barrel :) I'm sure you can get some nice dragon transfers too.

As for orders, they can't be issues to an embarked unit so yes you'll want to be yomping to benefit from orders!

Was going through my AM codex and had a couple of questions.

1. The Tank Commander order "Full Throttle" - Does it mean that your Flat Out move is D6 and you get the 6 inches from regular movement (to a max. of 12 in.) or do you get normal movement and 6 + D6 inches (max. 18 in)? I'm leaning toward the latter, but I know the first time I used this order, I didn't move 6' then D6 so I want to be sure.

2. Is there a dedicated box for PCS or does the Command Squad double for both Platoon and Company?

3. Would naming conventions be different between a veteran and a normal infantry squad?

1 - this lets you negate the movement penalties of being a Heavy vehicle, you make a Flat Out move for a distance of up to 6 + D6", for a maximum of 18" in the turn if you moved 6" in your movement phase. Don't forget orders are done at the start of the shooting phase :)

2 - I'm not sure what you mean, are you talking about unit entries in the codex? If so the CCS and PCS are entirely separate entities, just that the PCS is part of the Infantry Platoon unit so you can find its rules with them.

3 - the naming convention can be whatever you like! :D

Ah, in that case the answer is both yes and no. The CS box comes with loads of cool bits, but you don't need them all for a PCS. They're just a part of the Platoon so aren't as high rank etc so don't need to be that fancy. For mine aside from the Platoon commander they're basically the same as ordinary infantry squad troopers so you can easily kit bash your PCS from other kits and parts of a CS box you got for your CCS :)

Okay, quick confession, I typed the name wrong in the topic. It's the IV (4) not the sixth Blitz Army Group. Not sure if anyone can change that, but if you can, I'd be appreciative.

Now for the main purpose of this post. Quick rundown on Blitz High Command.

Field Marshal Kurt Vispil (Blitz Army Commander)

Castellan Graham McStuart (Regimental Commander of the 54th)                                                                            Obermeister Otto Karis (Regimental Commander of the 1483rd)
