The Thracian Crusade : Gather the brethren !

See, I'm the somewhat proud owner of a big white snow dog that I take everywhere with me, including the local GW :

This led (at least on our first visit) to a certain amount of hilarity as people thought my Thunderwolf was a tad oversized.

Hmm, well, it's not a kitten.  And yet, I feel a certain...concern.  There is something inherently sinister about poofy fur and big, soft eyes.  "Cute" is a favorite disguise of evil.

There will be thorough 'testing' of you and your hound, brother.  Or can we even be sure it is truly you who owns him?  We will find out together :furious:

In the mean time, perhaps you might want to take a look at decals for the shoulders.  Those big white pauldrons are canvases, and right now they're all sadly blank.

I wanted to make a joke about paddleums and collars/leashes, but it all went very wrong, very fast.

Some progress on the painting side !

The mechanicum and techmarines are zorking tirelessly on a fully magnetised razorback.

A new sword bretheren has rejoined the marshal's household after some heroic action last weekhttp://reho.st/self/38043f148330f54b7639c8d8df9c82bf20f59ade.jpg

Nice! I like the gold trim on the sword brothers cape

If may offer some advice, try painting over the part of the transfer that's not got any text on it, basicly in the corners with black. This should make it less obvious that it is a transfer.

Doin' some trials for regular terminators using an old plastic model that I got for free with a starter hobby kit a few years back.

I know C:SM and old C:BT had the termies with a white helmet, but that reeks of codex compliance, so I wanted to try without and I think it still works. I am aware, however, that I messed up the decals and the chapter symbol should be red. I'm also thinking the crux terminatus should be a lighter grey to stand out more. Any opinions or feedback guys ?

I rather like the white helmet look, just for 'breaking up' the black a little. Still, you've made it look good, I just think the white helm tends to 'pop.' Otherwise, yes I agree on the crux - a little lighter or more highlighting would make it stand out a touch more. Everything else looks great though, and I like the banner too.

Never been a huge fan of white helmets myself. It's easy to mess up. If you can pull it off, great, it'll look nice. But so will a black helm. Dig the banner, though as it is now, the fact that there's transfers on it stand out a bit.

Lovely seeing an old terminator painted up neatly in our black

Trying to get a few crusaders set up for ETL

On the left is the Brethren who will (as indicated by the augur) lead my devastator or sternguard squad, so he'll be fitted with a green stuff cape in due course.

In the middle a SB to lead a 3rd crusader squad (I'll magnetise the plasma arm to allow a swap with a bolt pistol) and feature in my upcoming "suffer not the witch to live" contest entry.

On the right, yet another initiate with a power sword because really, can we have too many of these ? I didn't have a right-handed power sword so this is a patch made from the power axe and power sword arm of the BT sprue (and thus the sword is appropriately chained.).

Edit : Occurs to me I never put up the finished work shots :

Because you can never have a sword which is too large. I really like your style of painting. Also, that's soe really nifty conversion work on the sword. My only complaint would be that the cross guard (I mean the base part painted red, under the wings from the BT upgrade sprue) looks kind of 'heavy'.

So, this month's painting contest is ending at my local GW and the next one starting next week. I was stomped for a while as the theme is "something with wings", and I can't afford nor have the time to paint a stormraven at present. So I'm going to play around the rules once again and enlist my Chaplain, after the long overdue addition of a plastic banner.

It's another of my relatively old metal models from the 90s, so I'm hoping it'll be a bit of a surprise.

So, while trawling through the old stuff I still have at my mom's place (I know...) I found a single space marine bike (because you had to buy them one by one at the time). Basically this guy, painted as illustrated :
http://reho.st/http://www.ciphergames.com/media/m1252383_99120101002_SMBikemain_445x319.jpg

Fortunately, I hadn't glued everything in place so the pilot and bolters come off, and the pilot's arms can also easily be replaced (well, one of them at least, the other one better stay on the handlebar) ; so I figured I could zeal it up as a side project.

Any suggestions as to what conversion could be made ? A marshal on bike seems the most straightforward option, as I don't plan to make a full squad any time soon. That being said, a sword brethren on a bike could also double up as a castelan... In either case though, where to attach the mandatory cape ?

Quite a few people here have been making bike command squads lately so I have plenty of examples of blinging a bike up to go with ; which is convenient.

Castellan, Marshal, Chaplain are about the only options you got for a single model on a bike if you're not making a full squad. So that being said, why not try and make him a chaplain? Mobile zeal delivery service. Then if you ever change your mind, you can add a command squad of bikes to join him in the future if you like.

Also as aside, gotta love how that photo has derped up bolters, yet's been the offical bike photo for how many years?

I always wondered how many other people noticed that bolter thing.  Always puts a smile on my face. :biggrin.:

It may be growing a touch cliche by now, but a biker with a lance is always deliciously knightly.

Duly noted.

As I have you on hand, I might as well get on with it and confess.

My wife asked what I wanted for our 1 year wedding anniversary, which is about now, so I thought "I could do with some more neophytes for my crusade".

Because you can never go wrong with more neophytes right ? (please excuse the bad phone/bad light quality)

However, herself, being notoriously dutiful (some would even say zealous), noticed there were two types of SM scout boxes. So here I am with a set of snipers.

http://reho.st/self/f93b16d44685317123c18b030513dec6637c68f1.jpg

And as I could hear firepower sharpening the paddle, I decided to break the bank and in order for my "reconnaissance" neophytes not to go solo, I got them a few "recon" initiates courtesy of forgeworld.

Shall I need penance ?

I use the recon marines as well, they are good fun to use and look much nicer as scouts in a fully power armoured force.

However I find Solar Auxilia the best use for us as their heavy armour is easy changed to match our crusading style and look the part when armed for close quarters along side our Acoyltes. :)

Yeah, they do look cool. Thanks for posting this Ciler, I never came across these guys. Cool as they look, this is pure 40K logic - send towering guys in plate armour as recon, no clanking or whirring is audible whatsoever.
