SO, gotta start making use of them xmas presents. The arms are (as usual) magnetised to allow for hurricane bolters and/or a chainfist, and I'm still debating whether i'll glue or magnetise the underslung weapons and hunter killer missiles.

There's strong arguments for specialisation on the ironclad, with melta/HKs on a chainfist variant, or simple dual HFs on a troop-killer. Magnetising completely will probably be worth it given you already started ;)

So, melta+chain fist+hunter killers on a variant to target vehicles, and hurricane bolter+hammer+2*flamers to take on troops ?

That'd be pretty convenient actually because I could glue the melta to the chainfist (if it's preferable to have the flamer on the hammer)

Well, it depends :/ there are other threads where it has been argued in detail, but what that says to me is that there is no 'right' way to run it - people have success with every variation. Personally,I find a melta on an ironclad is unnecessary if it isn't a dedicated armour-killer. There are many better delivery platforms for melta, in greater numbers or longer range. However an ironclad can be a reasonable counter to some armour, if you spec it fully. I would probably put mine together the way you suggest, with a melta on the CF and flamers on the PF/SH arms. Also the HK missiles look very cool, but it can be confusing to model them if you aren't paying the points, or have already fired one or both. Magnets resolve that ;)

An excellent dread with good clean painting/highlight lines.

Is he being a bit gentle with that marine, no broken armour or blood splatter?  A Marshall in the background shouting "put him down, you don't know where he's been" ?

:biggrin.:

:D

Well there's quite a bit of damage actually but you'd see it better from the front. From this angle you can already notice that the head is higher than it should be; it's being squeezed up in fact.

So, I had a pretty epic game yesterday against some IF (the explanation proposed was that Lysander took the last slice of apple pie from under my marshall's nose at the last feast of blades). 1000 points maelstrom game, which I won for a change.

Not sure what was the best moment, a 9 man crusader squad charging his 5 assault termies and killing 3 while only taking 2 casualties, my 140 points marshall with storm shield and power sword taking on Lysander himself in a challenge and getting a draw (1 wound each after 6 rounds of CC) ... Though I suspect the MVP is this guy :

His squad was tasked with dislodging a 5 man devastator squad from a fortified position. Although the drop pod landed accurately, they had to take a round of shooting (10 grav hits do hurt) to run around to the access hatch, then an overwatch, all of which resulted in all 9 initiates getting killed. At that point though he's getting pretty pissed and has 5 attacks, which result in 5 hits and 5 wounds. Yep, that's right, he cleaned them off by himself. Didn't survive though, which is a pity, but he shall be proudly remembered.

So, you may be aware that there was a discussion in the general section on the availability of the Mk 8 armour. So i decided to make one, since we templars have the privilege of having one chest that can be construed as Mk 8.

What do you think :

You can see the round bumps on the bottom part of the greaves (they seem very big from the front on the photo for some reason, I might file them down further). I am also working on a studded rim shoulder pad for the right shoulder, the left one served as trial and will mostly be hidden under a cape as usual.

Further update, I do wish it wouldn't take this long for green stuff to cure to a suitable level of hardness that I can sand off the surfaces of the cape.

What do ye think of the pad rims and other indications of a Mk 8 power armour ?

Looks great, the studs on the should pads' rims are an excellent addition. I'd probably broaden the "existing" cape (i.e. the already painted part) to match it with the green stuff "extension" that covers the pad.  Also, the tabard looks amazing - the contrast of the red ribbons on the whiteish cloth is a nice touch (though, I'd like to see some scripture there, but I assume that's till on the to-do list).

One question: are the lightning claws from the terminator box? If yes, I'm also surprised how well they turned out - they usually look like gorilla arms on a regular PA marine. If they're from a PA-dedicated kit, assume that I've never asked the question.

A small dolop of liquid green stuff, pulling the brush slowly outward so that it makes a point. The lgs retracts slightly while curing so it isn't actually pointy once you paint it but still stands out a bit. To be honest though the painting is what makes them stand out I think, and a neater painter than I am would probably achieve a better overall appearance.

Edit : further to that, the dots are actually easy to place spaced evenly thanks to the visible segments on the inside of the pad's rim (if ye see what I mean).

Also, the helmet is the champ's helmet from the command squad sprue and is a shade larger than the BTs "knightly" helmets.

So, with the Mk 8 project completed and still a few days to go on the midterm break, I figured it was time to tackle my last xmas present of a Land Raider Crusader (who said in-laws must be terrible people ?)

As some of ye might remember from my earlier Razorback, I like to have the inside of my vehicles painted, so here's a first series of WIP shots as the inside won't be visible as clearly afterward.

Engine block (in red because that-s the colour of Mars and on the off chance the greenskins are right) :

Some Templar iconography because we can :

What do ye think ? I've painted the inside a dull, light grey, in the hope that it'll provide more light if anyone actually wants to look indside (the sponsons/doors will be removable)

Magnificent.  I praise your ZEAL.

I am a great supporter of painting vehicle interiors whenever there is  the remotest chance that the ramp or removable doors will give a glimpse of the works. It is a great pity that GW did not support this on the LRC sprue by providing a full set of inside door panels.

Excellent work, thus far.

And I deem the ironclad completed. I've added a broken chaos banner on the base and a... guest star ?

What do you think ?

Personally, I expect the loyalist Dreadnought to dismember any and all enemies he can get his hands on, be they Traitor Marines, the Lost and the Damned, xenos, Daemons...

WIP :

The initial colours have been spray applied, now time for the brush work.

The red inside the cockpit is a bummer but there was no way I could remove the clear panels without breaking or damaging them. Localised application of glanzer/break fluid might have dissolved the glue but I didn't feel like experimenting too much.

That raven already looks a ton better then when you got it. I wouldn't fret too much over the red, we use a lot of red ourselves and with judicious use of red in any iconigraphy you might put on there it should fit right in.
