The Thracian Crusade : Gather the brethren !

That's what I was referencing - every BT player out there seems to have looked at that model and gone "I have a cunning plan" and then inserted that Orb of Antioch on the top of the crozius - that's what I did with mine too! ;)

Wow, that is extremely clever and awesome looking. Please do continue, you're conversions are very inspirational.

Amusing anecdote:

I was pretty impressed with your new Marshal conversion and thought, "Hey, I can do that!" So I acquired one of those models off of ebay. Then you posted your chaplain conversion and I thought that was cool, but since I had already gotten the other figure already, I"d just work with that.

So my packet shows up in the mail and sure enough, they sent me the chaplain fig and not the Captain. I think the Emperor is telling me, more ZEAL is needed in 2017.

One thing to pay attention to if you do the cherub conversion. You may notice that mine is based on at an angle : that's because I wasn't careful when I glued the sword in place and it had the handle and crossguard tipping down, which :

  1. Doesn't look cool
  2. Means the sword is going to come off the scabbard if physics have any sway on the matter

SO be careful how you glue the sword, or be creative with the basing...

A short WIP. I need to clean up and highlight the whites and highlight all the black, but the gold and red are more or less done.

I'm having way too much fun with that model ! The hand is magnetised of course. Still need to highlight the black and apply transfers on the small groin and shoulder shields (thanks heaven for FW small neophyte transfers)

- Brother, why does the Marshal keep our Templar cross on the head of his hammer

- It's a tradition from old Terra Neophyte. Back in the 3rd millennia, there was this blood bowl player from one of the european tribes - Can'thonas I think his name was - who had a special three stripe mark on his boots so that he may recognise a player he had already trampled over.

- I don't understand brother.

- Well, see here, if an enemy were to survive our charge, and escape, he would be easy to recognise, he'd have our cross on his forehead for the rest of his life !

And in case someone doesn't get the reference :

Again, work needed on the black highlights, and perhaps layer some gold on the holy hand grenade. Other than that, what do ye think ?

Edit : now I notice it... no rozarius. Damnit. Where the hell am I going to fit a rozarius (there's one in the SM captain sprue), middle of the chest seems overkill...

The model looks fine. I like the silver crozius. Don't sweat it about the rosarius, though. The model looks fine as it is and strikes a nice balance with the detail. And you could always assume that either one of the crusader seals serves as a rosarius or it is attached to his belt and under the cloak.

And it's done !

As for what's next...

+++Transmission received+++
+++Priority Omega Status+++

Lord... Marshal Helbre...,

... have engaged enemy ... near vault ... traitor have breached vault door...

... some emergency power remaining... Auspex reading indic... six stasis pods... old dreadn.. pattern..

Traitors attempting... disconnect sixth pod... portal summoned... Brother Br

Good job thus far.

Just say the rosarius is BEHIND that big golden gorget on his chestplate.

I came up with an alternative solution, attach the rosarius to the scrolls, I think it works all right.

  • 1 month later...

Long time no post, been kept busy with work.

In light of our new formations, I have made this little guy :

Ministorum priest with CC/Power weapon, bolt pistol and litanies of faith. The rosarius is embedded in the shield.

I've also started putting some colours on the contemptor :

The left shoulder pad will be yellow in memory of the dreadnought prior service in the VIIth first company.

Would you say it requires further detailing, or should I just highlight the black armour, paint in a few litanies, do the base and move on ?

The priest looks great, some real character to him.

Contemptor is looking swish, but that's a lot of flat space for such a glorious relic... Maybe a crusade badge, a seal or two? Doesn't have to be dripping in stuff but a couple of carefully placed accents would probably enhance it!

Love the plan for the Imperial Fist shoulder though, it gives the model some history right away.

Good job on the Contemptor. Is the Imperial Fists pauldron meant to show the Dreadnought is a relic of the Great Crusade? That the entombed Marine is an Imperial Fists Marine attached to the Black Templars? Or is it a gesture meant to honor Dorn and/or his Legion?

I have hinted at that piece of backstory in the various "fluff" pieces I have posted over the past few month. My Templar are currently working their way through the wreck of a crusade era IF ship, and finding relic gear. The dreadnought itself is from the VIIth 1st company, but the pilot is a contemporary Templar brother who suffered devastating injury attempting to stop traitors for making away with an omega level rogue psyker in stasis.

Keeping both heraldries permits to show both the heritage and history of the dreadnought body. Plus I really wanted to try my hand at yellow.
