Kilofix
Kind of an out of blue question but between the Word Bearers, Emperors Children and the Death Guard at the peak of their respective Legions; which one of those Legions specifically would be more likely to have a Fire Raptor in some random battle? I'm thinking Word Bearers since they made sure to (secretly) acquire lots of new stuff? This is apart from say SoH, IW, DA and Salamanders who I'm sure would have had a bunch, but I'm wondering about the 3 Legions I've listed specifically above. I just need to figure out what colors to paint my next FR. Thanks for the opinions. Iron Hands Fanatic
Well, all 3 would have made use of the Fire Raptor to some extent, but I've always envisaged the Emperors Children as preferring deployment via aircraft over Drop Pods / Tanks, so I'd imagine the Fire Raptor would feature to a greater extent in their arsenal to escort Storm Eagles, Thunderhawks & Stormbirds Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301618-whos-more-likely-to-have-a-fire-raptor/#findComment-3912318 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Those III Legion boys, always gotta make a dramatic entrance via some landing ramp. KBA
Those III Legion boys, always gotta make a dramatic entrance via some landing ramp. Sounds like you're thinking Storm Eagle. That said, I think counting the DG out if you want to play stereo types, equal chances between EC and WB. Hyaenidae
If every Legion doesn't use Fire Raptors extensively to support their infantry and strengthen their combined arms approach, I'd be a little shocked. Yeah, you didn't quote anything so it read exactly like you were responding to the OP. My bad! ThatOneMarshal
I've always thought the emperors children would have them because out of the legions you said the emperors children like to be fast and precise, something the fire raptor looks well suited for. Also who doesn't want a purple and gold fire hawk streaking though the sky. I've started reading groups rising and they seem like a fine blade for a swift strike while the death guard seem to be a a hammer... that gives you space cancer. Spaz431
From reading "Flight of.." how the descriptors of the DG battleships illustrate, they do not worry about flourishing, just utility. So I feel DG would fully use it as flying support. So I feel DG would fully use it as flying support. OP is referring to 'more likely in a random battle'. In Conquest, it shows the DG preferring infantryman tactics with things like Knights/Titans called in to deal with specific issues. Wouldn't imagine they'd typically be using lots of fast units or flyers unless absolutely needed, as it just wasn't their thing. I'd go with Emperor's Children in general as they like to be fast and that kind of support seems suitable, or alternatively a Word Bearers company that specialises in aerial assaults (as they're shown to have different tendencies, eg sieges, tactical drop strikes etc in the FW HH books) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301618-whos-more-likely-to-have-a-fire-raptor/#findComment-3912455 Share on other sites
Kilofix
EC it is then - thanks for the opinions all! But for the sake of ongoing discussion - who (all loyalists & renegades considered respectively) do you think are more likely to still have FRs in 40K? Salamanders maybe? Iron Warriors? Slips
Raven Guard, Blood Angels and White Scars would all be contenders, imo. If we're going with your list, Iron Warriors I think. Marshal Rohr
They would all use it in excessive quantities. Control of the air is vital in combined arms warfare. A mass of Death Guard, an armored Spearhead of Word Bearers, and a Wing of Emperor's Children Storm Eagles would all advance under the guns of Fire Raptors. Marshal Reinhard
I don't think there's even one of the legions that didn't have fire raptors.
