Triple Vindicators and DA allies

Given that BA are still the only codex to have access to Fast Vindicators, I think BA players may be best able of any Marine players to make use of the following tactic:

 

 

-Take 3 Vindicators, all with Siege Shields, and set them up all in one block, so that they protect each other's side armor (except for the left side of the left most Vindicator and the right side of the right most Vindicator).

 

-Place an allied DA Biker Techmarine with Powerfield Generator behind the center Vindicator, protecting him from your opponent's LOS.

 

-Turn 1, move up the entire 'formation' 12" and drop 3 S10 AP2 Large Blasts on your target of choice.

 

-On your opponent's turn, unless he gets a flank shot, he will have to get through a wall of AV13, all backed up by a 4++ save from the PFG, with the Techmarine able to repair lost HPs or even Weapon Destroyed/Immobilized results next turn.

 

-Turn 2+, continue the same strategy, moving the entire unit as a block, with the Vindicators providing mutual support and the Techmarine providing his PFG save and repair abilities.

 

The threat of three S10 pie plates a turn should cause your opponent a great deal of consternation or, if he ignores it, you can make him pay for it dearly. Better yet, this whole unit is reasonably priced points wise, giving you plenty of room to fill out the rest of your force without sacrificing all your points on a single "deathstar" unit.

The risks would be Barrage - which always hits a vehicle's side armor (though you'll still have 4++). And, fast moving CC units like Bikes, Beasts even Jumps, etc. The latter still have a 14" to 24" threat radius so you need to keep your Vindicators at max range.

Good point about barrage weapons.

 

That said, most Barrage weapons are Large Blasts (meaning they could only cause a single hit against each vehicle) and they are usually S8 AP3 or worse, meaning that they are unlikely to do more than strip a single HP per turn, or cause an Immobilized/Weapons Destroyed result, which the Techmarine can repair.

My drop pod army would love this, tactical squad takes out the biker stern guard take out 2 vindicators, I'll take front armor with melta, and ASM squad in other pod takes out the third pod with 2 melta and 2 grav, and that would be close to 700 points of yours gone? Also you'll struggle against landraiders all the have to do is stay 36 inches away from you and fire at you with laz, sure you get a 4+ inv but at it is just a 50/50. Also will struggle against and MC so riptide wrath Knight nids stuff, and fliers as well

This can only work if you're hitting the enemy on two fronts. You must present him with even more immediate threats - drop podded DC (marines & dreads), fragiosos to keep the vindies alive. Problem then is ensuring that your vindies don't hit your own troops.
