A list made for fun: Death Guard Death Stars

After seeing the Imperial Fist Death Star List, I decided I'd take a look and try making a Deathstar list of my own for Death Guard. @000pts, here's what I got.

Rite of War: Pride of the Legion

HQ

Calas Typhon - 200pts (Ok on this one I could have chosen a Praetor and saved points, this was more because the other list used both special characters for the IF's.)

Primus Medicae in Terminator Armor with Deathshroud Power Scythe and Combi Weapon - 132pts (Of what, could depend on the game. Designed to roll with Typhon in the main unit)

Troops

10 Deathshroud with Melta Bombs - 460pts (The main Deathstar unit. Primus Medicae and Typhon join them, and then they all pile into a Spartan, purchased in the Heavy Support. As for the second choice... well, for symmetry...)

9 Legion Terminators and 1 Sergeant with 2 Heavy Flamers, all in Capatchii Armor - 345 pts

-Transport: Spartan Assault Tank with Heavy Flamer, Armored Ceremite and Flare Shield - 340pts. (Essentially the "Back up" unit for when assault is just not enough.)

Elites

Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought with Kheres Assault Cannons - 180pts (Anti Air. Duh.)

Heavy Support

Spartan Assault Tank, see above - 340pts (the Deathshroud Bus.)

Absolutely eggs in one basket, but probably one of the cheaper army options available. Two squads of Deathshroud, Typhon, Two squads of Capatchii, two Spartans, a Contemptor and one model to convert into a Primus Medicae.

You might want frag assault launchers for the Spartans?

Otherwise, two Spartans. You monster.

Note: watch out for firedrakes. They'll hammer your force into a fine paste

Edit2: You could also struggle with objectives with so few bodies. One option might be to lose a spartan for another terminator squad or marines, and switch the regular termies to a more ranged focused load-out like plasma blasters

Edit3: If you took only 7 (holy #) 'shroud you could take a chaplain in terminator armour. Just sayin'. Potentially you might just want a fist on the medicae for some S8? The larger your unit, the less useful sweep attack becomes. But rule of cool, if the model will look more awesome with the scythe go for it

Two squads of Deathshroud, Two squads of Capatchii

Is this a buy one get one free special rule I'm not familiar with? tongue.png

Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighters with Kraken Penetrator Missiles will make a mess of your two Spartans and can do so whilst out of threat range of your Dreadnaught. Even if it is in range, if it fails to kill one, or two or more enter play from reserves you're in trouble. As your only anti-air option with a 24" threat range and the requirement to remain stationary, it also needs to survive before the fliers hit the board.

Helix Pattern Mortars will instant death your warlord and death star the moment they get the chance.

Your army will lose more often than not against an opponent that plays to the objectives instead of straight up man fighting you.

Will struggle against competitive 40k army lists.

You're doing it wrong, sir. Take Crysos Morturg so you can infiltrate a deathstar unit consisting of typhon, mortarion, morturg, and ten deathshroud right into the enemy's face. that unit with morturg casting endurance every turn (so you have 4+fnp and eternal warrior on EVERYTHING)
