After a speech by Sydonis about the great possiblities of Unbound, I have begun my first army of 2015: Adeptus Arbites. Guard vet squads in carapace will be taking to the field in Space Wolves Rhinos (as well as pinching a few pups from their den) while the Inquisition wonders what happened to one of their Land Raiders.

This is my first dedicated plog for a forum. I have numerous WIP threads but they're almost all for Space Marines so I'll be branching out a bit. The only SM stuff in here will be vehicles like Rhinos, a Land Raider and maybe a Stalker/Hunter or StormTalon. I haven't decided on the what ack ack to bring.

So far I've gotten a single game in against Sydonis' blob guard which was a proper bloodbath, both of our warlords survived with less than a handful of models remaining. Tomorrow I'll run a game against BassWave's Iron Hands. If all goes well then a proper commencement of construction shall begin, starting with a Cyber-mastiff handler and a trio of cyborg dogs. Progress on that begins this weekend.

Sounds like a great start, Arbites are one of the coolest bits of the fluff in all of 40k!

How will you build your army, traditional metal minis or convert SM scouts/IG vets/Scions?

There is an awesome thread in the painting logs on Warseer of someone who has used scouts and scout bikers with press molded eagle shoulder pads, judge dread style, well worth a look!

Ooh thanks for the heads up & for the scout biker idea. I have a few off those who need a new home. Sounds like I'll be adding a pursuit squad in bigger games. I'll be using a mix of Guard with third party arms and legs. I do have a single metal arbitrator who will be squad proctor. I'm not sure what to do for the heads but my warlord will be a Lord Commissar converted to look like a certain Judge so "I am the law" has to be his challenge catch phrase.
Nice. Only had time to look at the first post but I think that may solve the head problem. I've ordered my cyber mastiffs from maxmini so I know they're a good source. Also I have the Dark Angel upgrade sprue so I might use those on the pursuit squad as well.

As promised here's what I have started.

These pups came in yesterday and other than some green stuff work they're ready to be based and painted. Next their handler needs to be built.

Also during our game yesterday, BassWave told me about these heads. Looks like I've found what I'm looking for. Next paycheck can't come soon enough.

Sure. Remember this is unbound so some hijinks.

HQ - Commissar General

In the HQ slot is a DKoK commissar which hopefully will have a sense of dread about him when I'm done converting him. I might swap him for a standard one for relic options but for now he's cheap and cheerful grimdark.

Elites - Iron Priest, Henchmen squad

Meanwhile the Elites has an Iron Priest filling in the role of cyber mastiff handler with a trio of cyber puppies. I plan to have an =][= henchmen squad with grapple hawks representing DC assassins (tiny target justifies 5++ with power talons/wings) & crusaders filling in the role of riot cops (lucky for me my gaming group is fine with the swords being power mauls) and a priest with bolt pistol and power maul will play the part of squad proctor. All that fits in a Land Raider Crusader. This is my beat stick. I don't know if I'll stick with a proper LRC or convert one. I kinda want to make it look like a hulking APC like some movies have SWAT teams operating out of but I have a LRC already... Decisions, decisions.

Troops - Vet squad x2, Engineer squad x2

The core will be be a pair of vet squads, in carapace of course, and the proctor will be armed with a bolter with spec wep arbitrators sporting plasma options. The rank and file will either have autoguns or shotguns, probably the former. This is because I'll have a pair of DKoK engineers who'll already have shotties & carapace default. They'll running around in Centaurs and I want to make them look more like they're patrol units while the Vets are the tactical units.

Fast Attack - Rhinos, Hellhound

Space Wolves will also be donating APCs to the Arbites. Who knew space vikings were so big on law and order? Of course what's an Arbites list without a water cannon? ATTENTION ALL ARBITRATORS: Water shortages have placed this liquid in the precious resources list. Until further notice all water cannons will be filled with promethium. To help remind crews what to liquid to place in the Hellhounds tech priests will be attaching pilot lights to relevant vehicles. Have a nice day.

Heavy Support - Thunderer x2

This is the hammer to compliment my beat stick. Demolisher cannons are fun. In my test games one would out perform the other and has earned a nickname, Search Warrant. You can search rubble after all.

The list is what I have for 1500 points. It suffers from lack of ack ack & long range fire support in general, specifically in the AT category but its been fun so far. I hope to get in a game against mech Guard on Friday. Against mech SMs (Iron Hands) it did very well but struggled against blob guard. As far as expansion goes, I'll be adding a SM scout biker squad for certain and maybe a flyer or two.

Very true though I wonder how that stacks up next to a land raider. I'll have to measure one when I get a chance.

Well I still haven't gotten the bodies or heads yet so I tried putting together a thunderer last night.

Now I remember why I hated assembling old Imperial Guard vehicles.

After ten minutes of struggling to get the wheels to align with the track guards, I gave up & started on another project. If I have time tonight I'll try again fresh.

I custom made two Thunderers from truly messed up Leman Russ that I picked up from ebay. Here is my advice. Keep it to just the basic chassis, without a turret. Shave a bit around the turret with a hobby knife until a terminator base fits snug there. Put a hatch bit from any Imperial tank kit on top of the base. Put a demolisher cannon bit from a Baneblade (ebay again) where they lascannon should go.

It ends up with just the right about of rigged look in my opinion, especially given that Thunderers are less manufactured and more cobbled together from remains.

That's very similar to what I have in mind. Even have a pair of Baneblade cannons though didn't think about a 40mm base. I might have to try that when I get the chance.

Anyways quick update, I FINALLY got the heads in this week & had free time to make a couple of test models. If I have time this weekend I'll try making a full squad.

So this will be the proctor of one of the plasma squads. Pretty happy with it. The base was for convenience & a standard 25mm will replace it when I paint them.

Here's another shot of him & a female test model. She unfortunately doesn't have a head cause I haven't figured out how I want to do those yet. One of the helmets had a damaged face so will probably hollow that one out & put in a head I have from a previous project. The helmets are modeled after Sylvester Stallone so very pronounced masculine features even for a miniature.

Shot of the back of the models. Better angle of the autogun that will represent the lasguns of the squads.

Sinthos man, Sinthos!  On the brighter side of things, we need a rematch at some point.  Too few Guardsmen have died lately.

My mistake on the name. We shall have to get a game again as a side mission for the campaign.

Well the replacement weapons I ordered finally got in & I'll hopefully have some progress shots this weekend. Fortunately I had some time today to (mostly) put together the Sniper Support Team:

These use the rules from Skitarii Rangers. I think I may need some more scopes now that I think about it.

If it matters, I feel like you could do a bound version of this list with Inquisition and Flesh Tearers. Flesh Tearers provide you with tons of fast Rhinos, a nice PA HQ, and sniper scout troops, which would be appropriate for your cyborg swatties up there. Inquisition gives you everything else, including flagelants rules for your cyber pups.
