Doghouse
This is more of a nostalgia piece for me that I have quickly thrown together while working on my Word Bearers. It's one of those Chapters I have always wanted to return to seeing as it was my first way back in the day. When I was about thirteen I came across an article in White Dwarf show casing the new Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader game that would be released and it blew my mind at the time. The very first plastic marines I got were the RT01 "beakies", they were dark blue plastic and with the addition of red poster paint to the hand I was ready to go with my crimson fist marines. Twenty Eight years later I figured now might be the time to revisit the Chapter and put together a few marines that I can use with my Solar Auxila models for use as a contemporary army. Veteran Sergeant Marcelo Santorez Veteran of the Rynn's World incident and the battle of Jadeberry Hill, Santorez is a former veteran sergeant who like those before him were tasked with the training of the future Astartes of the Chapter prior to the invasion of the Orks. At the request of Cantor he returned to line duty leading remnants of the Chapters warriors into battle following the disaster that nearly destroyed the Chapter.. This guy is very wip in the moment and I've kind of thrown him together so that I could paint something other than dark grey at the moment and to free the cobwebs out of my brain a bit. I didn't want to make a Captain as with I think something like three companies left it would be a bit presumptuous of me to make one of them. So instead I went with a veteran that I will just use the Captain rules for but will be representing a senior Astartes instead. So far I am keeping it simple with a Bolt Gun and Power Sword, I've probably got another five that I can add along the way for now http://i60.tinypic.com/339nc40.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/ Share on other sites

apologist
Ha ha, awesome! Tempted to try the new larger bases for these guys? The fact that's the only suggestion I can make is testament to how much I love this idea :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3916451 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Cheers guys. As this is just a throw a bunch of bits together and hope for the best I'm going to stick to the 25mm bases, I've got 4 others quickly built and under coated now so as soon as I have some progress I'll throw up some pictures. Quick update Got a little bit more done and I'm quite happy seeing as I only spent a couple of hours on and off on this guy so far. Aiming for more tabletop standard than going too over board on them. I've added a few more markings like the chapter badge and added a campaign marking to the right leg. I've also opted for a simple command squad marking for the right shoulder pad as opposed to any personal heraldry. http://i62.tinypic.com/ibw2s2.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2gtw8l0.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/jrxowz.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3916696 Share on other sites
GREY88
Nice mini but what about the word bearers project? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3916726 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Cheers mate. Still working on them, I threw this guy together out of bits in an urge to paint something a bit more Gothic. Heresy era is nice but extremely uniform until the war gets under way. Doghouse
Got a second one on the go now, still a lot to do to the first guy though. Forgot how much I enjoyed painting Crimson Fists. http://i59.tinypic.com/es4xtg.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3917075 Share on other sites
Grizzly_bear
You know my thoughts on my beloved first love chapter fella. Doing them fantastic justice indeed. Maybe one day I'll get my dark blue mojo back, in just having so much fun at the moment with my scythes. Will you be making a truescale cortez or kantor? Please say yes? Doghouse
Cheers mate :tu: For now it'll just be the vet sergeant and maybe two squads at most. I did think about doing one of those two though, you never know. Doghouse
Well to be honest either would be fun to do. just a quick update. http://i59.tinypic.com/34ffrbo.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3917451 Share on other sites
Grizzly_bear
I think kantor would really push your modelling skills a little further then cortez, purely for the face that he's chapter master with a lot more ornamentation then cortez (obviously) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3917917 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Cortez is pretty cool though, a truescale kantor might be nice. Ok quick update, three on the go now with a shot of the first of the Veletaris models. These guys are pretty important as they reflect the scale of the Astartes. What I am hoping to do is use them as Solar Auxillia for my Word Bearers and Imperial Navy for my Crimson Fists. Although I have just been chucking these together out of spare bits I really want to drive home the feeling that all Astartes are characters in their own right. I'm also using a lot of bare heads to make them all a bit more individual where ever possible. I'm not going to go over board on the painting, ideally tabletop standard will do as my main focus is the Word Bearers at the moment. http://i60.tinypic.com/wqo86u.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/29fujvo.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3918684 Share on other sites

Doghouse
Cheers Guys Just a quick update, started on the bases to get an idea of how I want to go about doing them. Just something nice and simple with Ork bits strewn over them to start creating a bit of a theme. I'll chuck some grass tufts on after I get them cleaned up and finished with a varnish. I've come up with a seriously cool idea I have been wanting to try for a while that this little force might be ideal for but more on that later. http://i62.tinypic.com/ztut6r.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2mwhue.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3925597 Share on other sites

Doghouse
Thanks mate. :) Nah just something to do while I sculpt the arms on 20 MkIII Wordbearers to keep me interested. ;) I would like a small force of these guys though as they are fun to make. Doghouse
Just a quick update and more dodgy photos. Got five of these guys on the go now in various states and have started playing around with a few poses to make some a little more dynamic. The latest is running but the shoulder pads need to be sanded down as they came out a bit messy. The look I am going for is that each is a character in their own right so I want to add as much individual embellishment as possible. I was hoping to back them up with some of the Tallarn Raiders from FW but unfortunately they don't seem to sell them any more which is a shame. In the meantime I'll plod on with these guys and get the first ten up asap. Got a few poses and some really cool ideas that I want to share but more on that later. Next up will be some more running marines and hopefully get these guys fully painted. I have started a truescale Cantor but whether he'll make it into the final list or not I'm not certain just yet. http://i62.tinypic.com/iqk590.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/2vtqq6q.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3932553 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Ok just a quick update. Took a bit of a gamble and bought a knight titan. I've waited something like 25 years for one of these and I finally gave in and bit the bullet. In the process of blocking out the colours at the moment, nothing fancy just block colours before I go back and start painting it properly. I'm basing the paint job on the house I used during Rogue Trader which was House Hawkwood. I did start to sculpt details and ornamentation on it, planned on having the canopy open to see the pilot, hinging the torso and all manner of mad ideas but thought to heck with it I'm just going to build and paint it. I've also knocked up a proportionate Stormtrooper by elongating the legs and torso to bring it into the same sort of scale as the Astartes. What I am currently toying around with at the moment is a Knight supported by Household troops to accompany the Crimson Fists. My dream army really would be a true crusade force comprising of Astartes, Guard, Admech, the whole nine yards. I managed to break my modelling knife and I'm out of a few bits so for now I'm limited to just painting for the time being after forking out for this monster. So with money being a little tight right now having blown a couple of months hobby budget on this I'll just be painting the fists and the titan. http://i57.tinypic.com/2yxk96a.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/zvq8fl.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3940740 Share on other sites

Doghouse
Cheers guys! Good luck with that DS, hope you win one mate. Ok quick update. Blocked out the main colours now and I am in the process of working on the head and hull. I'll go back and go over the trims in silver once I have the bulk of the main colours in place. Must admit this is one of the most enjoyable kits I've worked on in years. Once I've got the basics in place and added the remaining plates I'll start on the detailing and free hand work. I may have to get another couple of these and do a proper household at some point. I'm going to do the gun shield in red and the chainsword arm in yellow. http://i59.tinypic.com/o8f3sz.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3941833 Share on other sites
Doghouse
This guy is a proxy, a stand in for a Colonel Straken who you may or may not know is a commander of the Catachan Imperial Guard regiment. The profile of Straken is not far off being a marine which makes him perfect for this kind of proxy. What I am currently working on is designing small modular forces that I can mix and match to allow me to field 30k and 40k armies by picking and mixing the blocks. What I really want to do is represent a Knight household supported by foot soldiers. This will be used as Mechanium in 30k and guard in 40k. Straken is in a small command squad so I will need to add four guard proxies to support him. Initially I had considered Solar Auxila but the problem for me is that the models are quite detailed which although makes them look cool also makes them a pain to paint in bulk. The plan therefore is to use the tech-thralls, in 30k they will support my Word Bearers and in 40k they will be guard representing the heavily modified troops of the household. I have no idea what chapter to do this guy as just yet. I ideally want something gothic, maybe one of the last survivors of a canon chapter like the Black Consuls. Just like Straken he has a plasma pistol, shotgun and close combat weapon. With the exception of an initiative of 3 (which I will explain away as him being a bit on the old side) and strength 6, in most respects he is pretty good representation of an Astartes. http://i62.tinypic.com/md2gbo.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301817-truescale-crimson-fist-veterans-truescale-dark-angel/#findComment-3952327 Share on other sites
