I somehow wound up with two firestorm redoubts... what to do

so I got a voucher for Christmas and decided to try out a firestorm redoubt. It was missing a single piece so GW gave me a whole extra one. Gotta love that, right?

Now I am trying to figure out what to do with them.

Mostly I play with CoF goodies- formations or lots of thunderwolves. I am thinking some really hard to crack heavy support might be interesting to run alongside massed TWC. Let the quad Icarus guns (and long fangs or whatever) pop transports, fliers and other threats, and let the TWC nom nom the rest.

but what to embark in the redoubts? I have one magnetized pack of long fangs with missile launchers. I also plan on getting three rapier laser destroyer platforms . RLDs are amazing but as it turns out, artillery cannot embark. They'd need to sit on top of the battlements, and I am unsure there is actually room up there for a whole unit of 3, plus the 6 crew.

other salient options are more long fangs, perhaps sniper scouts, and.. Dunno. Thoughts?

mostly looking for space wolf options, am open to FW. I might consider building a small raven guard detachment some time so C:SM might happen. Though I am not really into cents. Alternatively I can wait to see what adeptua mechanicus brings...

dunno. I am in NZ though... Not economical to ship especially seeing as it's assembled, hehe.

hmm, I am not too familiar with the deployment rules as they pertain to fortifications and infiltrators. It might be worth it to deploy a redoubt very aggressively - close to the middle of the table - with a unit of wolf scouts (or allied raven guard) inside.

I could potentially get a lot of use out of it as turn one shelter for thunderwolf cav. Being able to place something that huge as a screen would be sweet.

Actually, hmm. Did things change in 7th? Is it now impossible to put your fortification outside your deployment zone? I vaguely remember being able to put scouts in a fortification in the middle of the board but now it seems fortifications are set up the same as the rest of your army. Is that right?

I have a Firestorm Redoubt, and prior to our new 'dex I used it quite frequently. I generally always put missile/lc fangs in it, along with giving the Redoubt the Ammo Store and Void Shield upgrades. It was a bit pricey, but satisfied some much needed AA. Nowadays we have flyers, so I opt for the Imperial Bunker and a Comm Relay upgrade instead to help my reserves get in much quicker.

Overall my opinion is the Redoubt is good, but it really shines in Apocalypse where it gets passed over a lot. Unless you plan on getting a 3rd one for the Nexus formation (Ignores Jink), or plan on doing the Imperial Stronghold Formation (giving them Shred), I'd probably sell/trade the extra one. Just my opinion hope it helps.

Ah, excellent. I had never noticed that. shred even for occupying units is very very good though the high buy in (and apoc status), and the fact it's only units after the first that get shred, dulls it a little. Still, awesome!! Would go nicely with sniper rifles. It's only 1 redoubt (not 1+) though the second might conceivably be useful to swap weapons with a weapons battery.

The anti-evade also sounds great. It seems you lose one shot (3 instead of 4) and you'd need to avoid rules lawyers, as (IIRC) evade doesn't exist anymore. Fliers just have jink. Still, quite nice IMO.

I'm still trying to find the part in the rules that allows deployment of formations up to 12" of your zone (or anywhere on your table edge). Can anyone point me in the right direction? A redoubt anywhere in your table half could be quite nice for TWC.

Hmm raptors (tactical/sternguard with heavy 1 rending bolters) or 30k raven guard (mor deythan sniper rifles rending on 5+ once per game) would stack pretty awesomely with shred from a imperial stronghold formation. Lots of points though!!

I always wanted just the guns, I love the Idea of the model but I want to make it like a dropship type, I hate the it just was there when I attacked idea, so I like it to look like it was air dropped to aid in battle
