Is it Astra Militarum due to their easy AP2 and super heavies? Is it Space Wolves due to their drop pods for Purifiers? Is it Tyranids? nah I'm kidding bout that one. Reclusiarch Darius Posted January 13, 2015 Share Posted January 13, 2015 It's a tie between Blood Angels, Imperial Guard and Space Wolves - Bangles bring the Angel Priest, who not only hands out FNP to our GKT's or Paladins, but also protects them from bad Deepstrike scatter (by allowing re-rolls) and Interceptor (forced to Snap Fire against the unit). Their Furioso Dreads are AV13 and WS5/BS5, which drastically improves their effectiveness as assault walkers, as they bring not only multi-melta at range but also blood talons in melee. - Imperial Guard bring ground presence, cheap MSU, lots of special and heavy weapons, and they have their Orders to buff them up. They also have one of the best Flyers in the game (Vendettas), arguably the best battle tanks in the game with a plethora of weapon options at a reasonable price, and Bullgryns as a meat shield. - Space Wolves bring Rune Priests, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs and of course the lethal TWC. IndigoJack Posted January 13, 2015 Share Posted January 13, 2015 The inquisition brings some of the best MSU in the game, as well as cheap psykers to add to the warp charge pool. Space marines are a good choice too, as bikes (armed with grav guns of course :P) can easily keep up with NDKs and interceptors, providing a fast moving threat (though the model count will be a bit low). Reclusiarch Darius Posted January 13, 2015 Share Posted January 13, 2015 Henchmen Razorspam is an option, and their Valkyries with suicide melta are nice, but it's really the Terminator Inquisitor with Mastery 1, hammer and psycannon that is the most potent addition to our forces. He's like another Librarian, only he has an extra wound, Stubborn and packs a psycannon. Can someone explain me the use of bullgryns for GK? They cost more than a terminator which has a better save, ld, loadout, is more mobile due to DS and can actually punch and shoot stuff. Well yes T5 and W3, nifty, but with abundant S7+ the T5 doesn't matter much. Loth is like the marine equivalent of eldrad and definitely higher end competitive simply due to reliable power selection. That said Sentinels of terra isn't very far behind. Basically if I didn't roll invis then loth would have been better (pretty rare honestly). Otherwise my libby is cheaper, has a spell familiar, same warp charge and packs an 18" range auspex which is sick. Also loth can only deploy with the cents because he doesn't have DS. And why would he ever not right? Well it does come up, if rarely. There are games when both my psykers end up with the nuts.. i.e. double invis, prescience, shrouded etc. In these instances I have sometimes opted to spread the love around by DSing my other libby with a terminator unit. This keeps me from wasting the duplicate power due to only one power cast per unit rule. Options is options man. Also I don't use tax squads so scorpions chapter tactics are otherwise wasted in my list where SoT scouts get close range bolter drill. The drill has been really good to me against non meq armies hunting chaff while outflanking for objectives/linebreaker etc. Lastly I do really enjoy their warlord traits. With rerolling I shoot for either reserve manipulation or an orbital bombardment which I will split fire. Coupled with the cents and a damocles cmd rhino this can really help my army out in the alpha strike department. Getting iwnd on a psyker is never bad either. The rest are meh. I'm just weird in that I like to use some of the more powerful options but I don't like to take them quite all the way OTT. My beaststar wasn't psychic fueled, my seerstar was a mini version which I soon lost interest in. Bleh. I guess I like the flexibility and damage output but I don't like taking every chance away from my opponent, or investing that much either. If you let your local Red Scorpions players use him, be prepared for shenanigans. He's like the Daywalker of psykers, the only drawback he has is sometimes you won't have enough psychic dice to cast all his powers ;) I consider Tiggy somewhat superior to Loth. Not really. Worse armour save, no invul, stave vs axe, he has to roll for his powers like a pleb...Tiggy is cheaper and legal, but he's otherwise worse in most aspects. I guess you could argue UM Chapter Tactics are better than Red Scorpions (although free FNP on your Tactical Marines is...not bad). He has access to Divination (Perfect Timing to br exact). Above all else, he re-rolls all failed tests, making him far more reliable than Loth. Sure, Loth can pick either Invis or Endurance (he has to stay on one table), but he might not be able to get the powers off. Tiggy is an almost guaranteed cast and he can safely cast WC1 powers with 1 dice and ultimately get more powers off. Tiggy simply has the reliability that Loth hasn't. All the other things you mentioned like Axe and 2++ are irrelevant, because he isn't a CC character. He must be burried in a unit, preferably with a tank up front. When it comes to casting, the actual putpose of a psyker, Tiggy wins in my eyes. Divination is great but you can get it from Inquisitors, BA or DA Librarians (or GK for that matter). Being able to pick only the three best powers from either Telepathy or Biomancy (Telekinesis is bad even when you can choose) is huge. Telepathy in particular has three obvious choices (Shrouding, Invisibility, Hallucination) plus an awesome Primaris. Biomancy has an awful Primaris, but it's got no bad choices really, and several incredibly powerful ones for a combat psyker like Loth. 'Iron Arm' is especially insane, it basically gives him a force hammer and T7, which combined with his absurd 2+/2+ saves... I'd say Tiggy is a better support psyker overall, but Loth just stupidly hard to kill and hits like a Monstrous Creature. When it comes to casting, the actual putpose of a psyker, Tiggy wins in my eyes. 2+ invul and a force axe matter a lot when 'Iron Arm' puts him at T7 and he goes to S8 attacks. Tack on 'Endurance' and you're getting quite absurd value out of him. Attached to either Grav-Centurions or Stormhammers he's a pain to kill and he generally deletes whatever he touches.
