Modular list builds

Where do you guys stand on Modular army lists?

So, for example, Im planning a Combined Arms detachment:

750 points:

Njal

2 Hunter Packs

1 Long Fang Pack

250 points:

2 Rhinos

1 Razorback

So that I can field a small force gunline, or in bigger games, I can add some transport/protection.

Or for 750:

WGBL

2 Hunter Packs

Dreadnought

Long Fangs

250:

Vindicator

Predator

Next Division is a Wolves Unleashed:

750:

Wolf Priest

2 Blood Claw Packs

Lucas

250:

WGBL (Shooty)

1 Wolf Scout Pack

500:

Ven Dred

Iron Priest

Long Fang Pack

Lone Wolf

500:

Wolf Priest

3 Rune Priests

So this gives me plenty of room to change the army depending on the size of my opponents force, as well as what I'm going up against.

Any criticisms, suggestions, etc?

Its not a bad way to be able to quickly change points etc, but you may run into problems with the army being properly synergised if you are just picking stuff because it 'fills x points' rather than 'a works well with b'.

Although as long as you  are giving each of your divisions a specific role and are aware what this is, then sure you may be ok -

- for example - your 500pt one with a ven dread, iron priest, long fang pack, and lone wolf seems a bit odd to me as its kind of just a mash of unit types (although maybe thats cos i see lone wolves as always just being a division by itself).

Myself, i usually have a few set 'core' builds 0f 750-1000pts, and then i add to those in ways i think will work nicely, but the way i add to the core often changes from game to game.

Way back in 2nd, 3rd and 4th Editions of WH40K, that's actually how we had to build our lists.

I'm not sure it updates as well as one might intend now:  the much greater issue is that our HQ's were totally rethought with the 5th Ed. Codex.
