Ironwulf
Hail, Brothers of the Aett, I'm hoping to pick your brains about extra armor for Rhinos, Razorbacks, Land Raiders (and related tanks). While cleaning up my work area, I realized that I have several sets of FW Reinforced Armor for a variety of tanks. (2x Land Raider Reinforced, 2x Rhino Reinforced, 1x Rhino Spaced. Also, a Dozer Blade for a Rhino.) Before I start working on a few pieces for my army that may/may not include these add-ons, I thought I'd consider their tactical usage before building. My question is this: How many of you actually think Extra Armor is worth the points in a list? On a Land Raider, Predator, Vindicator, or Razorback- I could see that it would be points better spent than on an ordinary Rhino. Of course, if used on a transport Rhino, it might ensure that the cargo gets to the destination… On the other hand, is it a matter that people are avoiding the "ForgeWorld Tax;" monetarily ($, £, €), rather than points-wise? (That is, for those of us that play WYSIWYG.) It's always easier (and cheaper) to just assemble the plastic tank right out of the box and put it on the playing field. So, I welcome your thoughts on the matter... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302048-questions-on-extra-armor/ Share on other sites
Spazmonkey
I don't think you really need to model them with the extra Armour. but if you have the ability too then why not. As far as Rhino's go, I think it really depends on the unit embarked in it. If it is an expensive unit that needs to get to its target then its worth considering. Or if it MUST! get across the board then maybe. But as a general rule for me it is not something I would spend points on. I only tote Grey hunters in Rhinos so not a biggy for me. Other than that they are just used for objectives. I think the points are generally spent better elsewhere. Frater Cornelius
I like extra armour on two models, when I can afford it: 1) Land Raider Crusader with a CC squad inside 2) BlizzDread Why? They needs to get close to enemies to unfold their potential. Being unable to move because of a crew stunned is very annoying. However, I would never go out of my way to get those upgrades. Amarog
agreed with immersturm, if you have the bits to model it on then go for it, it'll look cool. if you have a unit, as mentioned, which is being transported and you need it to get somewhere without being delayed by stunning then it could be worth it, but only if you have points spare or something and it is a vital unit. DanPesci
Dreadnoughts it used to be useful, as if they got crew stunned result in combat, then the next turn they would count as not being able to move, and so be hit on the rear armour. im not sure if this still happens in 7th ed rules though? Other than that, aye, land raider is useful. I also sometimes put it on my pred executioner just so it can continually move and get the best firing position, but thats only if i have the points leftover (id usually go for a dozer blade first) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302048-questions-on-extra-armor/#findComment-3921282 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I had never really considered taking extra armor, now I will. I had not considered the inability to move with crew stunned. Definitely a consideration now. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302048-questions-on-extra-armor/#findComment-3921772 Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
I always take EA; it's a pretty solid way of preventing part of the die coming up that says no moving, outside of immobilized. Vash113
I use Extra Armor on virtually anything that can take it. If for no other reason than it allows a vehicle that otherwise can't shoot to get out of LOS or move away from a threat when otherwise it might be stunned and stuck soaking up punishment. As for modeling, I don't do anything special for extra armor. Yea it would be nice if all my vehicles had additional armor modeled on them, but that is far too expensive to be practical. Besides, I haven't had a single person complain or object, after all it's not like Armored Ceramite has a model or bit either, really it can just be written off as the vehicle has had its armor reinforced with more advanced materials, bonded layers of adamantium between layers of ceramite plates resulting in harder armor with ablative layers that is no thicker or significantly heavier than standard plates.
