Concrete dust / ash for bases

I was looking into getting a few pigments for terminator bases (cork simulating concrete slabs), and thought to use some pigments on the base and little on the terminators feet, there seems to be 2 pigments that look to be the part, not sure if anyone's had experience with either;

Secret Weapon Miniatures Ash Grey

Secret Weapon Miniatures Slate Grey

Which would be the best bet? the description of slate grey says for concrete dust, and that particular one comes in an 'urban dust - pigment set', the ash grey seems a bit darker and greyer but the slate has a slight yellow tint it seems, not sure which would be the best to go, don't think it'd be necessary for both since they look pretty similar, not like the rust set where each has a different colour and they work well together.

I think i would most likely only use whichever one for just the concrete slab bases for terminator (and 2 custom dreadnought bases), not so much for tank weathering on tracks, I'm more likely to go for a dirt pigment for that, not sure if one or the other of the greys is more suited for tanks instead of bases.

Ash Grey looks slightly darker and a cooler shade of grey. It is closer to what we would automatically picture when we hear about 40K urban dust, or concrete.

Slate Grey, however, is probably more accurate and similar to real life concrete dust. It's up to you. Assuming you're not trying to create photorealistic dioramas, Ash Grey is probably the better buy, and it also matches Citadel's Astrogranite texture paint and their grey normal paints. Ash Grey would look better on the base, and Slate Grey probably looks better to form a very light layer of dust and weathering on the miniatures' feet.

TL;DR - Darker Ash Grey for more cartoony 40K style concrete and for putting powder directly on the base or rubble, Slate Grey for more realistic light powder and for dusting on feet or tanks to represent dust clouds.

Awesome thanks for the info, ill have a look into getting the Ash Grey, although after the explanation i kinda feel like getting both now and using each for the purposes you described, have to see how much the total order comes out to and if i can sneak in the extra pot of pigment.

I would just like to mention that for an indefinite amount of time, Secret Weapon will be hosting weekly sales to celebrate their 5 years of being in business.  If it isn't urgent, perhaps wait on the inevitable sale on pigments and stock up then?  They announce the sales every monday on their facebook page.

Just putting it out there.
