Kastor Krieg
Very much WIP so far, but I'm getting a lot of maybe not negative, but rather "meh" feedback about the pop-color, the sea-green, while I myself like it a lot and seem to have found a good color substitute for detail instead of the usual red (seals, vials, so forth).Thoughts? http://i.imgur.com/Zvhc1fW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cYIxfvM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UeunNoo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0ljjqAz.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/ Share on other sites
The Red Thirst
Love the silver and teal highlights ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3925282 Share on other sites
RayGun924
I think the sea green looks like a good contrast, the problem is that it lacks depth. The purity seals look very good and maybe pushing the shadows and highlights on the gems/vials/lenses would make it pop better. Cheers, Ray Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3925283 Share on other sites
marine7312000
I think if you go over the sea green with a slightly darker green it would look awesome. Not covering all of the green mind you, just a bit of it. keeblerartillery
I agree with marine. I like green as a highlight color...just not that sea green. Kastor Krieg
The plan is to wash with Coelia Greenshade upwards, so it gathers above and thus create a shadow. Likewise, wash downwards with Nihilakh Oxide to create light. Then put gloss varnish on the whole thing to create a 'glass' effect. I will do that with all the flasks and blood drop icons, unless they are gold (some gold on silver occurs on some miniaures, just to mix it up a bit). Kastor Krieg
My Sanguinary Priest colors will look more or less like that. Experimenting with "Blood for the Blood God" in the cup and very happy with the results.http://i.imgur.com/xkmIU9L.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/vYewxc9.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3926090 Share on other sites

sockwithaticket
I like the teal a lot, I think it will look cracking if the way it is now is it's brightest point and remember, less is more. Go from black or much darker teal up to that and it'll be grand. That said, not sure about it on the meltagun fuel cell. Interested to see more as the red is lovely Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3926546 Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
So, I've found this in an artist supply shop today. http://i.imgur.com/l7BOsmK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tD5roBP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fzG8x3n.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XzmMWL7.jpgAnd this is what I've done with it. The power weapons look AMAZING in person, just like that. Single coat, best get some subtle tonal differences underneath, like from sloppy airbushing the main color. Done! Black_out
Is this the army those Death Company I challenged you to finish will be for? As far as colors go, I'm a really big fan of both the teal/sea green purity seals and the new PW color Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3952806 Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
Hey mate, yes, these are the guys. The progress ceased with the DC for the time being, as I've got a string of deadlines in work, but I will carry through :)I'm thinking now, because I don't really want to do the usual black-and-red Death Company. I kinda made the point of using all helmet-less heads on the DC, I'd rather use their detailed armour to underline them as heroic and zealous crusaders than battle-crazed lunatics. I'm thinking how to best use the teal in connection with their armour, considering that red is relegated to secondary colour at best. I'm considering the exact same use as on technicals, but making their armour all silver instead, with gold detail. I just don't want to get TOO greyknighty. Hmmm...perhaps if you went with a darker metallic? Are you planning to run any Sanguinary Guard? What will their scheme be? Only asking because gold armor could also be a good option if you were planning something other than gold for the SG. Urauloth
I think the sea-green looks great, personally, especially given that you're planning on shading it. I just don't like the silver. (except for that Deathwatch guy who looks rad as hell) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302236-carmine-blades-ish-wip/#findComment-3959524 Share on other sites
