Strata
As the topic asks right now, I'm curious for some aspects of heresy wolves. As I've been wanting to get into the heresy, and so nice I already have a few 40k era wolves it seems a natural progression.. Or would it be regression.. To pick them in the heresy. Now in 40k, the wolves have all the extra decoration, the. Wolf icons, armor trim banding, and fetishes such as the tails, pelts, and gems inset to their armor. Now I ask what would we see of this going back into the heresy? Would the armor still be embellished so? Would one particular mark be favored over another, or would we see mixed sets more commonly? The other aspect, seeing as we don't actually have anything released from forge world yet, how would you go about representing one of our great companies on the tabletop? Brother-Chaplain Kage
I would say Prospero Burns by Dan Abnett is required reading for Wolves in the Horus Heresy. Every other author that I've read that does Wolves makes them the stereotypical Drunk Vikings In Space(and I have not read everything on 30k Wolves by every author). blackoption
Thus far, the only real info we have about the Rout during the heresy era comes from the Black Library. From Prospero Burns, we know that the great companies are numbered. The descriptions in the book suggest that pelts on the armor was not uncommon, but perhaps not as prevalent in the 40k era. As for armor marks: All legions had some stocks of MK IV armor and were fully furnished between MK II and MK III. As a loyalist legion, we know the Wolves' supply line was limited in giving the best new toys to them. So my thoughts (at least until FW Inferno is dropped) is to mix some of the GW Space wolf bits in with the FW armor bits (mainly furs and the occassional rune for Rout Praetors and centurions/consuls). As for company heraldry... it might be better to leave the shoulder pads blank until FW gives us a template to go off of. I suspect that their companies will have similar markings as 40K great companies, but what markings and in which order..... I have no idea.
