depthcharge12
So an idea that sprung to my mind in search of the best cc units was thus: 1.) The Blood Angels have access to a relic AP2 sword with lots of USRs 2.) Most people take praetors, but would prefer to give them paragon blades due to murderous strike 3.) Champion consuls suffer from a lack of good cc weapons to deal ap2 at initiative 3.) Champions get a benefit of WS6 and get to master craft one CCW 4.) BA relic sword + champion + master craft = win 5.) Praetor w/paragon blade + special sword champion = extra win With the ability of the champion to declare challenges, it frees up your praetor to deal some AP2 to an enemy unit, and likewise, if your enemy declines a token sgt for a challenge, you can still challenge with your praetor and have AP2 cc attacks from your champion. The amount of I 5 AP2 on the charge is superb and can deal a lot of death to any hard hitting enemy cc squad before they get a chance to retaliate. Anyone think of trying this? Hesh Kadesh
No, because; Generic Furious Charge Praetor; Mastercrafted Paragon Blade, Powerfist, Digital Lasers, Iron Halo = 190 Generic Furious Charge Legion Champion; Photonic Blade Relic, Meltabombs, Artificer Armour, Refractor Shield = 160 For the price of that Legion Champion, which provides you with an additional 5 At Initiative S5 Fleshbane AP2 attacks, you can spend another 15 points to pick up a Terminator Squad which gives you 15 Unwieldly S6 AP2 attacks, which unless going up against Rending CC in any decent number (Gal Vorbak, and the odd Alpha Legion unit with a Sergeant, Apothecary and up to 3 IC HQ's packing Power Daggers), Monstrous Creatures (Mechanicum), or a Praetor (with their Paragon Blade), you're going to be equalling their initiative, so it's not exactly a major limitation that it sounds like provided you know where you're charging. If you already have a Terminator Squad, and have a Praetor with it anyway, then it's either on foot or in a Spartan, so can fit another 5 into the squad for 150pts. Sure, it doesn't get a Ld Test or WS1 rule or at end of phase take Init Test or WS1/BS1, or have a 50% chance of D3 S4 AP5 Ignores Cover hits, but as you can see they're hardly breakingly powerful rules, and you're likely to get similar if not better damage results out of 16 S6 AP2 attacks.
