Hyaenidae
tbh I really don't think BL has the definition what the perpetual actually is. And in the end when you confront them with the question "why is every perpetual different from the next" it's just gonna be a lame excuse like "everyone is different", *snip* #1: If you're looking for a concrete answer, this is gonna be about it, I think. Personally, I like the "everyone is different" reasoning, as... well.... it makes more sense than most other answers. The Perpetuals really are special snowflakes, though not as special as we give them credit for, in my opinion. My two dinars. #2: The WWI fanatic in me adores that avatar of yours. Takes a special kind of stupid/brave Soldier to dive into a wall of machine gun fire, mustard gas, and artillery bursts while on a horse.... with a friggin' spear. Awesome. Daemon2027
Question. Is the Sigilite a Perpetual? If he is, could the society he said he was the last member of have something to do with the Perpetuals? Slips
Question. Is the Sigilite a Perpetual? If he is, could the society he said he was the last member of have something to do with the Perpetuals? I don't think he is since he disintegrated when they took him out of the Golden Throne (or at least died..I remember disintegration somewhere...). Daemon2027
Judassem, I have it in my head he was part of some sort of society, maybe I got it from the The Sigilite audio. Think when he is talking about the older parts of the fortress in the Himalayas. Slipstreams, I though that but the Golden Throne is like a leach, I mean I think only the Emperor or possibly Magnus could sit on it. We know the perpetuals can be killed, I'm guessing the reason Oll was brough into the books was yo serve in that glorious purpose on the Vengeful Spirit when things were darkest, so it's possible the power of keeping the Golden Throne running could overload his perpetualness. I wish we knew more on the Sigilite, if he is not perpetual he must be very long lived. Slips
Well he was, I think, the Emperors only friend besides Constantin Valdor. And I've gotta say, being actual friend with the Emperor when even the Primarchs couldn't attain that level of a bond, must have come with some pretty amazing benefits. Daemon2027
My other thoughts if maybe the Sigilite will be revealed as real son of the emperor, a nod to the Sensi of the old fluff. If they don't do this, even in hints, I will be very upset. GhostMalone
Im sure that he could be a perpetual maybe the only one the emperor truly connected with and why he was willing to give his life and soul to man the golden throne, could be that the throne took his power to reincarnate and the reason he could stay on it was it kept killing and reviving him until he was removed and finally his will gave out Would be pretty grim dark being destroyed and as your bodies regenerating that destructive power is disintegrating your mortal shell over and over and over to finally be released and to be completely annihilated from trauma fatigue etc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302285-how-perpetuals-work-spoiler-zone/page/2/#findComment-3929051 Share on other sites
Augustus
Isn't it in the lore that as they dragged the big E's carved body to to the throne they saw Malcador wasting away and the big as was "dead". And when they removed him(Malcador) a tiny wisp of energy transferred to the Emperor, resuscitating him. The Emperor proclaimed him "Malcador the Hero" Perhaps that wisp was perpetual energy as seen in the much reviled "Vulkan Lives" ? The Emperor having expended his to kill Horus? He got Malcador's but maybe the throne used up almost all of his "perpetual juice" which could partially explain the continued state of the Emperor. John was a pho-perpetual which would explain why it wasn't enough to totally resuscitate Vulkan. Daemon2027
Saying that, I don't want all the heroes of the Heresy to be Perpetuals and Astartes. If you want to read about the common man standing against the Warmastr and his allies, then you need to read Tallarn: Executioner. Hyaenidae
It's a very impressive novella, and was actually worth every penny. Getting to see unaugmented humans and their armour taking on Legionnaires across a hell-scape of toxic sludge and life-eater fogs was pretty intense.
