Charlo
Evening Brothers, I recently got a Pin Vice from amazon with some drill bits and I'm a little confused. I managed (with some substantial effort) to drill some small holes (like a gun barrel as a test) but it seems that often the thing will get caught in the plastic and just stop spinning/ drlling Is there are way to alleviate this? I've also noticed that the drill bits aren't held in place by the thing... At all, even the biggest one I have just falls out when it is tightened fully? Am I doing anything wrong?! Brother-Chaplain Kage
The problem with the drill bit stopping like you described is either it's not secured tightly enough in the chuck, or there's too much waste material in the drilled hole. I've had the second problem happen with some extremely cheap drill bits I bought at a dollar store because some of they were smaller diameter than I could normally find, and they just didn't clear out the debris like the higher quality bits did. For the problem of them not being secured enough or falling out as you describe, can you post a picture of what you bought? It might help ID the problem. Charlo
I got this from amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K7ZV86I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 And here is a pic of the chucks. Maybe I have to use the thin end to hold the bit in place? But i would have to literally pry it open to let me get it in there? http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah177/nevscorner/20150119_195816_zpsjlerpmms.jpghttp://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah177/nevscorner/20150119_200220_zpsc70u765r.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302289-pin-vice-woes/#findComment-3925983 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
There should be another chuck(or collet) inside the handle with other sizes. Unscrew the back end. Charlo
I did already and it's seemingly exactly the same Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302289-pin-vice-woes/#findComment-3926032 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
The one I have like that, the first collet looks the one you took a pic of - the extremes of the sizes - and the second one is two mid-size openings. If both are exactly the same, you might see about returning it because you can't use it like that. Leonaides
i wrapped the smaller bit in a little twist of paper - gives just enough purchase to allow the black part to grip it when you tighten it... If it helps any, i bought mine from GW about 10 years ago... Charlo
I managed to get the smallest bit into the smallest chuck with a bit of fiddling, now it works a dream! Just drilled out some bolt pistols and they look SO much better! Can't wait to get some magnets in my models Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302289-pin-vice-woes/#findComment-3926102 Share on other sites
