Blood Angels Test Piece

Here is the test piece for a Blood Angels force I'm working on.  The force will consist of the Deathstorm boxed models, and a few tactical squads at the moment.  That might expand.

I decided to use these to work up to painting the copy of Space Hulk my son and I got for Christmas.  I want to do those guys some justice.

Sharp, and pretty clean. Very nice so far.

One thing? There's a mold line running the length of the top of his sword arm. Might want to see about that before you go any further,  :)

I tried several times to kill that one to the extreme that I was concerned about losing the detail. I have the mould line removal tool too. It got to the point where I decided to leave it, and try and draw away, or incorporate it somehow.

Cheers guys, I'm following the guide from the Space Hulk issue of White Dwarf, so the optics are Ceramite White as base, and a load of Waywatcher Green glaze to get the shadow and tint to the right levels.

Update Time:

Going from White spray undercoat, to mephiston red spray, then Agrax Earthshade all over, to basecoat of mephiston red, picked out the black, to detailed.  Hope you enjoy.

Not bad mate, might want to ease back a little with the wash; its pooling too much. Otherwise, solid.

Cheers for the input.

I looked at that with the sargeant model, then cheated a bit in order to retain the effect.

I based them on Rhinox Hide over sand, with (tutorial I found on here) clumps of snow and grass.  That way, the wash looks like grit and dust has built up while on campaign.

When I get a chance, I'll reshoot the sargeant model, and hopefully, you'll see the effect I was hoping for :)

A few minor details and the banner to finish, then have to decide what to "write" on the banner and shoulder pad plates.

Very nice stuff, they have an old school field that really appeals to me. thumbsup.gif

What he said.smile.png

With edge highlighting its super important to be tidy, so try to repaint/ clean up any messy lines as you make them. I think the new 'how to Blood Angels' on GW's YouTube channel talks a bit about this here.

Another useful tip is to pick out important details with just a dot of much lighter colour e.g. use a bone or light human flesh 'dot' on the red to pick out of corners of the face, hands, elbows etc. Be careful to use this technique sparingly though!
