Stormwolf fluff

Recommended Posts

So with the new codex format being fluff light on individual units (and now with catalouge pictures instead of artwork :/ ) does anyone know how long the Stormwolf has been in use, and any fluff of them beyond the rather small bits the codex holds?

Ever since GW decided they need to make some more money ;)

But seriously, I believe the codex is the first and only mention of it.

I know it was done to cut costs, but I seriously hate the new codex format, it just feels tacky and cheap, which is a shame as the unit fluff anr artwork entires used to be one of my favourite bits, as bad as the chaos codex it just feels and looks far better for it even if the rules are sub par.
So no mention of them in any books or things?

well the ships and hellfrost seem to be new stuff

Stormwolves and Stormfangs are mentioned in the fluff of the Sanctus Reach Campaign which was around the space wolves releases ,
the fluff in Hour of the Wolf ,
Blood on the Mountain
and the Audio Drama Iceclaw ( really good listen )   make mention of them.

Though it seems nothing really predates the codex and campaign stuff.  I would reckon its probably old tech that the iron priests got working again. Maybe they literally just started cutting Assault Rams in half we dont know

I expect perhaps when we get legion specific rules for the Space Wolves we might have more information on the Stormfang and Stormwolf, the implication seems to be that they've been around for a long time but we won't know until more material is published about them.

Haven't really seen anything else aside from the Sanctus Reach material, and that's pretty bare.

Frankly, I don't expect we'll ever find out much more from GW regarding them or the Helfrost weapons aside from the general type of hand-waving stuff seen when the Graviton weapons were released with the SM codex. If I recall correctly, there hasn't been all that much fluff released surrounding the other SM flyers either.

I believe in one of the Horus Heresy novels the Wolves have a flyer called the Stormcrow not sure if this is a precursor to the Stormwolf.

I kind of remember reading something like that as well. If you can find the source and page number that would be a huge help, I'd love to add the info to the SW Comp History. Plus Battle of the Fang mentions open-sided Skar gunships and there's a mention of a Dropfalcon gunship as well.

A Thousand Sons p174

"LEMAN RUSS: THE Wolf King, the Great Wolf, Wolf Lord of Fenris, the Feral One, the Foebane, Slayer of Greenskins.

Ahriman had heard all those titles and more for the master of the Space Wolves, but none of them came close to capturing the sheer dynamism of the towering wolf in human form that set foot on the cracked stones of Raven’s Aerie 93. The jetwash of his Stormcrow had scorched the pale mountain stone and smelled of burnt rock."
