TheKingofBadgers
Hey folks, As much as I like death or glory charging tanks with a chainfist, I have found that, as one would expect of a vehicle, they're slightly faster than my poor little terminators legs can carry them. Thanks to my regular opponents cottoning onto the fact that terminators are kinda nasty when they get up close, I'm finding that - despite the best efforts of the Terminators - vehicles are proving more elusive to kill than I would like, and becoming more prevalent in my games as a result. I've been trying a mix of speeders (MM or Typhoons), CMLs and Mutli-melta toting LRCs (which also act to try and get the previously mentioned chainfists into range), but the amount of cheap transports (eg rhinos) and super evil jink saves (I hate wave serpents), means that pure saturation is allowing my opponents to maintain their inherent mobility advantage throughout games largely unmitigated, allowing the equally common AP 2 weaponry to dismount and squish me at a time of the other side's choosing. So to my questions: What is your favoured method of taking down vehicles with a DW theme list? Is it truly viable in a DW themed list to engage vehicles at range, or is it a case of creative positioning in order to get our mass melee AP 2 into range? Very interested to hear your thoughts! PS: As a caveat I'm not a huge fan of using FW stuff due to both the cost of it and the fact people within my local group can (and sometimes do) say no when people ask to use it. That said please feel free to mention them as its still interesting! marvmoogy
how about a Contemptor mortis with 2xtllcs and a cyclone? if you dont want FW then a standard mirtis with the 2x tllcs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302383-ranged-anti-tank-support-for-deathwing/#findComment-3927919 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz
Both those options are awesome but both require FW rules. You obviously are happy to include RW; spam Typhoons until you run out of models :D and add a couple of min sized RWAS with 2MGs and Attack bikes with MM. They are the best AT in our dex. As for positioning, a chaos friend of mine was an absolute master at deploying his termie heavy deathstar units in centre field then choosing a flank to destroy by blocking movement in half the table. Give it a go... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302383-ranged-anti-tank-support-for-deathwing/#findComment-3927943 Share on other sites
marvmoogy
Sorry, my bad...was thinking of TLACs as the normal 40k rules, not TLLCs... Chaplain Lucifer
I usually bring along RW bikes and speeders to do the heavy lifting against vehicles but the cyclons and assault cannons can take out vehicles by stripping off HP's, by sheer volume of fire. shabbadoo
"What is your favoured method of taking down vehicles with a DW theme list?" The weapon of vehicle whoopin' that nearly every Deathwing model will be holding in one of their hands (i.e. powerifst, chainfist, thunderhammer), which vehicles never get cover saves against. No-brainer there. "Is it truly viable in a DW themed list to engage vehicles at range, or is it a case of creative positioning in order to get our mass melee AP 2 into range?" Guess who wins when a force that favors close combat gets into a shooting contest with a force that favors shooting? No, it really isn't very viable. If you play Deathwing and are not smacking usually WS 1 enemy vehicles with 2 Attack (3 on the charge) models that use powerfists, chainfists, and thunder hammers then you are not fully using your force's resources, and deserve to have your butt handed to you. If you are going to engage at range, you surely don't do it wiith with melee specialists, and you certianly don't do it with expensive Land Raiders which are desinged to get your melee specialists where they can do the most damage. The only thing that should be engaging at range with are Dreadnoguths, and even then only if they are Devastator Pattern Dreadnoughts (i.e. no power fist Dreadnoughts). If you want ranged shooting other than Dreadnoughts then take Devastator Squads or Predators. Otherwise, use your melee weapons to deal with enemy vehicles. Vehicles are WS 1! WS 1!!! Get in there and smack the crap out of them.
