Scimitar Jetbikes Anyone using them?

Liked that, good to finally see it after hearing the Aussie's bang on about it :P

Interesting he doesn't talk about Outrider ranged upgrades too much as well. Got to say I totally agree on the Jetbikes being saved for ranged combat, especially in a DA/ BA/ WS movie with all the buffs.

Hearing that Jetbikes are gun platforms saddens me a bit. I had this mental image in mind of a Praetor on one with a Paragon Blade, Thousand Son, all that.

And there is absolutely nothing stopping you! The article only talks from pure efficiency.

Take a Jetbike Preator and command squad retinue, it'll be awesome.

Was thinking more the Rite of War, but that could work too. I'm just thinking it could be fun, and I could count them as Tzeentchian Bikers in my Chaos Army/Chaos Lord/Sorcerer on a Disc, with a secondary base prepared.

That, and it would let me mix Tomb Kings parts, already have a skull and scimitar piece that could totally be a lance head.

(It helps I'm trying to make this army as different from my Death Guard - Almost all foot sloggers bar the one Spartan, otherwise it's all walkers or Infantry - as possible. Be that an all Terminator or more mobile Thousand Sons)

Mate do it! They are good fun. Just as previously said not the most efficient unit

I plan to! I have a trip scheduled for Warhammer World anyway when I go to visit England, and I fly out to England at the end of the week and it was either going to be this and pre-ordering the next books, or more Death Guard, and they're at 1500 points and mostly unassembled as of now.

Consider this for a character;

Primus Medicae, Scimitar, Boarding Shield = 140pts

You get a 2+/6++ with FNP 5+ and a Cover Save from Jinking to tank shots (yes, you can jink when in a squad that cannot jink - although only the characters with that rule get the save), plus Defensive Grenades.

For that cost you could get 4 more scimitars!  FnP is great but cost:return it isn't so hot until the unit they are with is 10 strong.  Plus you're only using the FnP when an armour save is failed...which is usually your 2+.

I'm more curious what the new heavy support jetbikes will be like. If they are basically the jet version of assault bikes, not sure if I would spend a precious HS slot for that.

As for the manifesto, it was a good read but I could help thinking in the back of my head "this dude is trying to convince me bikes are good by comparing them to stone gauntlet breachers, which is a little like trying to convince someone to eat a dry turd because it tastes better than a wet one".

I've had great success with a 3-man squadron with a volkite culverin. The T5/2+ and range make then really survivable and a low threat so they can harry successfully, and the speed makes them great objective grabbers. As an Iron Warriors player I get the pinning heavy bolters too.

Aye - the only jetbike squad I'd take into combat would be a DA Command squad one with Rad Grenades and a Consul in the Ravenwing RoW - MAYBE an EC one because they could break something on the charge with a good challenge from a spear. Both of those are very expensive though for what you get.

The pace for them is certainly gunning things down.

Interesting Thread. I pretty much came to the same conclusion about jet bikes in regards to Raven Guard. There just isn't much reason to take them except for in armies that can change their weapons or can run them in 3 man squads and keep them alive / not broken.

White scars do them well though.

I'm conflicted about spears on Sgts. They issue mandatory challenge, artificer Sgt. declines, so you get to kill his friends but not him. Your life at this point depends on doing enough damage to break them and run them down. Otherwise, next turn he takes your mandatory challenge and you're facing a power fist with a two-handed power sword.
