appiah4
Brothers, I present you a challenge. Using the C:BA, come up with what you think is the most effective HQ to run on a bike, listing all wargear options you picked for him, and the total cost. Then give a rundown of your reasoning. The winner of the challenge will get to have his choice modelled and painted by me. Rest assured that I am not manipulating you into picking an HQ for my army, and this post has absolutely nothing to do with my indecisiveness. Now.. go! Karhedron
I would go for a Captain with Artificer armour, Relic Blade, Storm shield and combi-grav. Grav is great on a relentless platform as you can fire 3 AP2 shots before you charge. Storm shield and Relic Blade are a slightly cheeky combo as both state you cannot gain the +1A attack for having an extra CCW but there is no restriction on combining them. If you are really worried about 2+ save units, you could replace the Relic Blade with Valours Edge. Either way it does not affect the model, just give it a fancy sword and you can choose before each battle which it represents. That gives you a T5 character with 2+/3++ save. Once per game he can fire 3 AP2 shots before charging in and striking at initiative with 4 attacks at either S7 AP3 or S5 AP2 (depending on which sword you choose to go with). Xenith
Yea, the above :) I'd always go with valour's edge, though, with digi weapons and an auspex for when you've fired the combi grav. appiah4
Does captain need combi grav with such a high I? Especially with an at I weapon like relic blade or valors edge? How about Combi Grav and Thunder Hammer? Shoot and drop to I1 before charge then keep beating him back to I1 with the hammer? Or Grav pistol and power axe? Similar to above but cheaper and more attacks.. Karhedron
Does captain need combi grav with such a high I? The combi-grav is primarily to cause wounds. The initiative drop is merely a useful bonus. I could see the argument for a Thunderhammer if you expect to face lots of MCs. Against most opponents though I think that striking at initiative is more useful. ROBOcaster
I would go for a Captain with Artificer armour, Relic Blade, Storm shield and combi-grav. Did this yesterday and can tell you he was amazing taking on a unit of Chaos Bikes and Plague marines, after it was done he still had 1 wound left. Guy was a beast only thing I wanted by the end of it was a FnP but I was extremely happy with him. Going to be adding him to a JP Command Squad next game and together they should do some work. Karhedron
Too bad we cannot get a biker command squad or we could give him FNP too. Still, I guess that is what allies are for. Damo1701
Captain: Artificer Armour Bike Thunder Hammer Lightning Claw 175 of hard to kill because of toughness and armour save, and hit with either re-rolls to wound at I or super smacking stick. Now you've given me an idea for running him, in a bike squad, with a bike chaplain too... Edit: Plus you get the +1 attack for two specialist weapons. Deschenus Maximus
Librarian - Bike, Galian's Staff, Auspex, Veritas Vitae, ML2 Makes the Libby pseudo-EW, gives him a 4+ cover (from Jink), and he's a strong buffbot thanks to being able to roll on Divination + the Staff + ML2 and having an Auspex and the VV to gain more WL bonuses. Damo1701
Is there a unit that said HQ is supposed to run with, or is he riding solo? I would run him either with a full strength bike squad, to to hit a unit tied in combat by assault marines or scouts. Also, another idea would be use him to distract from a newly podded in squad. He is quite versatile, and nippy. appiah4
No chaplain, techmarine or priest ideas so far? Oh b&c, you lazy.. How about a librarian with bike and basic force sword and grav pistol? How about a librarian with bike and basic force sword and grav pistol? Run a Chaplain with Grav Pistol on bike, with a Priest with Lighting Claws in a full strength bike squad, re-rolling hits, relentless, T5, and FnP. That's gotta upset somebody's day? Though, FnP with my captain combo from above may be the nastier combination, so replace the chaplain with the captain? appiah4
Possible. Just brainstorming ideas. The measly techmarine with his 2+ Armor is actually also a good fit for the bike; for a very small points cost you get 2+ T5 a Power Fist, Bolster Defenses and can zoom around fixing mecha.. I wish Techmarines could take Special Weapons because a Gravgun on him would be incredibly sweet, however I will settle for a Grav Pistol and Power Sword as well. What say you B&C? Just grinding your gears a bit. The LC Priest is also a fantastic call, but that begs one question: I can get him a Bolt Pistol (meaning as a SC he can enjoy a +1A on the bike, which is a big deal IMO), Bolter, and Bike - then I can replace the Bolt Pistol with Grav Pistol and Bolter with a Power Sword (or Relic Blade or Valor's Edge). Why would I not do this instead of getting just the LC? Damo1701
Relic Blade - Two handed, so no +1 for second weapon. Valor's Edge - Ok, but no Shred for (I think) 1 better AP. But with Valor's edge you come off slightly cheaper, unless you give him a grav pistol. The Techmarine, after looking at the codex, could have a servo harness too, which would make for nastiness too... Daym... Tecmarine, with servo harness, and lighting claws... On a bike... So, the techmarine (while taking up an HQ slot) would add to some decent nastiness of an LC armed priest too, with his save, the T5, and all the other things with harness and bike... appiah4
Techmarine has a strange entry; says he can take Melee weapons, then is allowed to arbitrarily also replace his BP and/or Boltgun with a Power Axe.. Odd. Why though? Oversight? Maybe was never meant to take any melee weapons other than the Power Axe? I'll give this some thought (and start a new thread). Not sure if Bike/Harness/LC on a 1W model is a reasonable amount of points, that's like twice its value in upgrades lol. I'd probably just give him a bike and a LC and call it a day. DarthOvious
I read this combo about somewhere on this forum recently. Stick Dante with a couple of Libby's on bikes and roll for biomancy. If you get ironarm off then you're laughing. I already had a Libby on a bike and I decided to make a second one so I could use this combo. Librarian: Valours edge, ML2, Bike Librarian: Gallians Staff, ML2, Bike Might consider adding digi weapons and/or storm shields, etc. I'll need to look through the options and see what looks good. Brother_Mike
A good way to significantly boost a bike squad's resilience and utility would be to include a Sanguinary Priest. I probably do something on the cheap side like: Sanguinary Priest Space Marine Bike Combi-Grav Auspex The Veritas Vitae 105 That's cheap for what you pay for :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302469-forum-challenge-of-the-week-most-effective-ba-hq-with-bike/#findComment-3932525 Share on other sites

Yeah I had a look at the book last night and saw that it was only for Terminator Armour that they could take a Storm Shield. Thanks for the suggestion. I play in a group of players who play some strong lists and I am looking for something to settle on for my Blood Angels. Charlo
In terms of modelling opportunities; the Tech marine is something you could probably have the most fun with. Personally I'd like to see one on a low floating platform magos style leading the charge with his 6 arms all laying down the hurt. Anyone else wish we could take the Techies, Libbys, Chappies and Priesties with 3 wounds? :( 2 just seems so few... Random thought though: imagine if a Tech marine fell to the black rage... Would they let him keep the servo harness? Imagine the destruction... We can still give him FnP just keep your bike Captain within 2" of a jump pack command squad, they move 12", he moves 12", no problem. That's what I do.
