New audio drama by John French:

This audio recreates a tense boarding action via a series of linked 'found extracts' of Imperial Fists vox-communications. This unique take on the Black Library audio drama makes for a immersive and gripping listen.

Well that certainly sounds interesting. And more about Tallarn by John French is always welcome.

The ravaged world of Tallarn now plays host to the greatest armoured conflict in the history of mankind, with the bitter and vengeful Iron Warriors leading warhosts of tanks and Titans across the befouled plains.

I think we're fine on that count, we are still in the early stages. Don't worry, the massive tank battles are coming.

An obsolete staging world for the Great Crusade with immense stockpiles of equipment and armour chassis, selected as a target by the Warmaster's forces to make a point, escalating to a true battle when the Imperial warmachine survives the devastation, growing into an immense battle as each sides continues to funnel their forces onto Tallarn as a response to the other side doing the same, spiralling deeper and deeper into an increasingly nonsensical run-on sentence.

This new audiobook sounds incredibly interesting, and I will definitely get it.

And this is from someone who hates audiobooks.

Did you get it in the end Conn?

Or anyone else? I'm thinking about this (rare, I know! As I don't normally buy audiobooks either), but I'm thinking either this or Iron Corpses might be sensible to push me over the £45 limit to get another service stud...

Aaaand completely forgot, as I spent all afternoon watching Dr Who episodes, playing Drop Assault and proving that staring at Steam installing things does not, in fact, make it go faster.

Okay, the Good, the Bad and the Unfair, brief highlights:

The Good: Far as I am concerned, it delivered on my hopes upon hearing the concept. I liked the vox-chatter and I liked the narrators notes inbetween files. It might be unoriginal, as was mentioned, but at least it was not an actual audiobook. For my tastes, that's a positive thing. I liked them pondering what place honor has in the Legion in these days, and the narrator flat-out scoffing at it.

The bad: The dialogue left a lot to be desired at parts. There was a particularly awkward, drawn out point where one sergeant explained to the commanding officer that what the other sergeant was referring to was the commanding officer's advanced age.

The Unfair: I listened to this thing nonstop, on repeat, during an eight hour workday. It was maybe forty minutes long? I honestly could not tell you anything that happened, beyond super board strokes of the storyline. It was refreshing to listen to, in comparison to typical audiobooks, but I was still afflicted by my inability to actually register all that was happening. However, I full recognize that this is my own issues with listening to audiobooks rather than any fault of its own.

 A great way to spend the day!

Cheers - really do appreciate it. I've now noticed Straken is the same price - so I may wait a week or two before getting this with the other audio. Can go towards my next service stud!

The bad: The dialogue left a lot to be desired at parts. There was a particularly awkward, drawn out point where one sergeant explained to the commanding officer that what the other sergeant was referring to was the commanding officer's advanced age.

But it also had lines like "I do not need my left arm to run..." which made me laugh out loud as I was listening!

I've got to say, this is probably my new favourite audio drama. It's just clever, immersive storytelling and for me that's exactly what audio dramas should be about. I loved it.
