Hesh Kadesh
After thinking about the White Scars, I've been thinking about what to do for the Space Wolves, and it's a bit more difficult, was hoping a few people could come and give me a hand with writing some rules for them; Legiones Astartes (Space Wolves) - Legiones Astartes - By the Throat; If a Space Wolves unit does not shooting during the shooting phase, and during the following assault phase, it charges against multiple units, its is not considered a disordered charge. In addition, overwatch shooting attacks against models with this rule. - Hates Sorcery; All models with this rule have the Adamantium Will special rule. In addition, when allied to another faction, and those allies make use of Psychic Powers for any reason during a battle, then the two forces instantly change their level of allegiance to "Distrusted Allies" for the rest of the battle. If they already consider each other to be Distrusted, instead, it changes to "By the Emperor's Command". If in a campaign, this change in an allegiance level persists for the rest of the campaign, and may even go worse if psychic powers continue to be used. - Pack Mentality; Space Wolf Dreadnought Talons change their unit size to 1-3, becoming a squadron rather than individual units. They benefit from the By The Throat, and Hates Sorcery special rule (they are considered Characters and Ld10 for the purposes of rolling to decide how allegiance levels change). - True Grit; Counter Attack. Space Wolves equipped with Rapid Fire weapons can still charge after firing Rapid Firing weapons, although doing so causes a disordered charge for such models. Special units; Not sure. One idea I've always wanted to expand upon was the Agents of the Emperor/Warmaster mentioned briefly which is a unique unit of Space Wolves, but it cannot actually be taken by the Space Wolves, but instead is only available to other legions, as either a HQ choice, or a Bodyguard for a Primarch I'm thinking something along the lines of a Command Squad stats, up to 10 strong, with the Veteran Tactics special rule, losing the Banner but keeping Chosen Warriors. With the special rule which grants them Fleet when joined by a Primarch, along with some decent pieces of equipment for them. Trying to think of a decent mechanic which may cause them to change sides. Once they've changed sides, they are controlled by the opponent as if they were "By The Emperor's Command" with his forces, but short of using Psychic Powers, I cannot think of a possible cause for them to split sides. The other legion special units, I can't really think over, For Runepriests, I'm thinking of making a new consul which allows their Psychic abilities to not be affected by Adamantium Will as a result of their belief in "pure magic from Fenris". Moonstalker
You've got a typo in By the Throat - you seemed to stop mid-sentence and left part of the rule off. Hates Sorcery is interesting. I'm not sure that it's really much of a drawback though, it's honestly all +. Psykers are already quite rare in 30k, and those who make significant use of Psykers are not generally allies of the wolves. Your version of True Grit steps on the toes of Iron Warriors a bit. I'd probably settle for just counter-attack. Maybe offer a discount to tactical squads if they want to buy a chainsword. Pack Mentality is kind of naff. Who takes Dreadnought Talons anyway? Boxnaughts are overpriced in 30k, and Contemptors are better. Overall, I think you might be stacking on too many + and not really putting in any -. If I was designing these, I'd look to 40k, focus on some wolfy things. Encourage bolter/bolt pistol/chainsword on tacticals with a discount or by making it outright free. Counter-attack is a must. Don't focus on all these tactical charge options you're trying to build in through multiple aspects of their LA rules. Consider something like, "Hotheaded: characters must accept challenges" to represent the impetuousness of wolves. Port over some wargear, give sergeants/cents/praetors a frostblade option at the very least. Think about barring Contemptors from use (if I remember right, Wolves have some distrust of Contemptors) and create a special dreadnought unit (1-5, cheaper, basic options, operates in a squadron? turn your special rule into a unit).
