Uprising
I need some ideas for basing my salamanders. Its basically 3 companies(terminator company, scout, and a regular one), mix of forgeworld and GW plastics. I want to avoid lava bases(everyone does these), urban warfare(my chaos has these), and jungle. Also some pictures would be nice for examples and maybe a tutorial. Thanks for reading. Quixus
Maybe a "Martian" base. Simply reddish sand. It should be easy and contrast well with the green Salamanders. Snow bases go with everything. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302525-salamander-basing-ideas/#findComment-3930673 Share on other sites
Ovidius Incertus
I'd do some sort of ash, although I don't know if this qualifies as "lava". Were I doing it, I'd use a grit paste, prime black and dry brush some gray or another. Maybe add a few rocks here and there. Green should stand out nicely against black/gray and will compliment any black accents like pauldrons on the armor. Brother Lame
Scorched earth, ashes and lava/basalt bases would seem to be the most fitting for Salamanders (at least in my opinion), but I also like the red sand idea mentioned earlier. My poor man's method for alternative rock/sanding bases is to simply cover the base in sand/grit/etc. then just apply a big wash of whatever colour wash you fancy and dab a little bit of water onto larger rocks to dilute the colour and add a natural highlight. You could then drybrush over the top of that if you wanted. As another alternative, what about metal plates underfoot? PastelAvenger
What about the cracked base look you can get from the new technical paints? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302525-salamander-basing-ideas/#findComment-3933208 Share on other sites
