Terminum
Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me identify the colors used for the blue highlights on this model. Appears to be at least 2 blue colors and I'm not the best judge, particularly on top of black. If possible, citadel color names would be preferred since it's easier for me to find those. Secondly, any idea how I can achieve this brushed metal effect on the wings? Would I just lightly dry brush with a large flat brush after the wash dries, or is there a better way? http://www.darkeyestudios.co.uk/Jay/Thokt_Necron_Doom_Night_Scythe_1.html Thanks! GrandMagnus
Here, try this: http://elementgames.co.uk/forums/how-to-paint-dark-steel-metallic-t258.html Or this: http://elementgames.co.uk/forums/how-to-paint-blue-steel-metallic-t265.html You might want to change a few of the colours depending on what you are looking for, but I think this would be it, right? As far as the blue... I think calgar blue, altdorf guard blue and fenris grey. Lucio
The brush effect metal looks like you've said, the darker metallic colours were painted and washed, and a lighter metal drybrush applied and a further wash along the edge to darken up the tone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302538-2-paint-questions/#findComment-3931164 Share on other sites
sockwithaticket
For the blue carapace, I can't speak to GW colours, not very familiar with them. But it looks to me like Vallejo Game Colour Night Blue as the main carapce colour, VGC Imperial Blue for a broad brush highlight around the edge, then perhaps VGC Electric Blue as a finer edge highlight with VGC Glacier Blue at the corners.I say this as it looks very similar to the my power weapons, albeit on a much larger scale, and those are the colours I use.http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_ChartUse the paint chart to find GW equivalents if you must, but be aware that the chart is only a very rough guide and matches may not be particularly close (this is doubly the case with the newer/current GW paints). Ovidius Incertus
Looks very much like my DE kabalite scheme, actually. My base "blue" is a bit darker than that, but not by much. Paint over Vallejo gray primer with a black pre-shade in the darker areas (not really necessary). My base mix is Vallejo Game Color Night Blue (= Citadel Kantor Blue), VGC Heavy Blue and Vallejo Model Air Black (2:15:9 ratio). You could probably skip the other colors and just paint Night Blue/Kantor Blue over a black prime. First line is with Night Blue/Kantor Blue, then step up to Vallejo Model Air Blue (maybe use Citadel Macragge Blue?), then final line with Citadel Ice Blue (don't know what they've replaced that with...Baharroth Blue in the edge line, maybe?).
