Kill Team & Combat Patrol lists/experience

To make something useful out of a half-baked idea, this thread is now about Kill Team and Combat Patrol games with Space Wolves.

Post list suggestions, tactica, and battle reports here.

(The Warsmith will do something cool later to make up for his challenge flub...)

So far this thread seems to have the flight characteristics of a brick, which is disappointing. I quite looked forward to reading Kill Team experiences in a narrative vein. Still do.

Further information for "full disclosure": of the four Kill Team games we played I tabled my partner in all four of them using CSM Chosen. In addition to getting to read brief bits of fan fiction (which I always like to do on the B+C) I thought this "all in good fun" challenge would also give some insight into CSM vs SW scenarios. Down in the Chaos Marines sub-forum we have these sorts of challenges on a reoccurring basis, so it seemed like a good way to get a topic rolling. Maybe I should have been more straight forward?

If that's not this sub-forum's style, or maybe because nobody knows me here, that's OK. Other than that: general discussion on Kill Team would be fine too.

It sounds like fun and I would like to take part but real life does not allow at the moment. I work at a farm 6 days a week, it's tax time in the states and my cousin is working for H&R Block preparing taxes, my 79 year old neighbor (my wife adopted him as a grandfather 10 years ago) is in a rapid health decline. So my opponent and I have conflicting work schedules for now. Any free time I have is spent at the hospital or working on boxing up the old man's house.

I like Kill Team and my Wolves are 2-0 against my cousin's Nurgle followers. When things get back to normal I may get a chance at your challenge. Real life is a real kill joy at times.

Give me time and I'll try an entry.

I think everyone appreciates the effort, but the game scenario is very specific, and this sub doesn't post a lot of battle reports either. I have a 1000 pt game against some Thousand Sons successor chapter, Infinite Sons, next week. We get points for submitting some narrative fan fiction, so i will post it in here.

Unfortunately the past two mondays (my game-night) have been met by snow storms so i haven't been able to get a game in yet. But I really can't wait to put up a report. With luck, and blessing by the all-father, this upcoming monday will be a clear of the winter's curse.

Combat patrol (400 pts) using special rules built from adept icon rules.

My list;

4 Thunderwolves- all with chainsword and bolt pistols (in my actual list champion has a frost sword and 1 has power fist but its been so long since i played i forgot)

5 grey hunters bare bones, one with a plasma gun

2 rapier weapons- heavy bolters

My enemy i didnt get a list for, but it was something like

10 cultists laspistols

1 units of noise marines with the big a** gun

2 rapier hades autocannon

1 more rapier hades auto cannon on his own.

The board was 4 by 4, mirrored- so whatever i had on my side he had on his. My left flank was a ruins, right flank was a hill, and middle of the board was a line of sight blocking tower.

I don't remember everything that happened, but i deployed first, placing my rapiers on the hill overlooking 3 objectives, and put my rhino with greyhunters in the ruins. My TWC started in the middle hoping to have the tower block line of sight (it worked). I moved up, using the tower for cover against both noise marines and the rapiers. I took 1 wound from rapiers during this because i had a foot hanging out (mad at myself). My heavy bolter rapiers i think caused 3 wounds to the noise marines.

He placed the cultists in front of the rapiers the turn before i charged, knowing i would charge them. Of course i devastated the cultists with the twc. Next turn he took a lot of shots at the twc, i managed to prevent all wounds to the unit through armor saves and he flubbed with the noise marines big gun. From there it was over. My wolves crushed the unit of 2 rapiers, moved on to the noise marines as my heavy bolters chipped away at the remaining rapier.

All in all- it was a massive win for the Wolves, hard loss of the chaos forces.

Luck of rolls mainly chocked up to this win.

I'm working on setting up some Kill Team games with my friend who plays Eldar, and would be interested in suggestions for a Team.  I have most of the stuff I'd need except I only have a couple ThunderWolves and no pods.

I've never heard of Combat Patrol - can some one please tell me more?

Combat Patrol is like Kill Team in that it's a modified way to play 40k in a smaller game. There are a variety if restrictions on list building to enforce the smaller scale feeling of the game, a very basic FOC requirement, and generally a points cap at 500 points.

i don't have a link, but adepticon has some rules for combat patrol.

How my local store does it is;

400 points per side

no 2+ saves (however, spells can get you a 2+ save; Daemons of Nurgle in cover for example)

no 3++ saves (however, spells can buff a unit to this- Daemons for example)

no armor more then 36 armor (or something like that. Like i field a rhino but no wave serpents)

Maximum amount of wounds you can have on a model is 2 (i hate this rule personally)

All that is mandatory on FoC is One Unit of Troops (no hq mandatory). You are allowed 1 of each of the other slots and one misc.

So you can have;

1 HQ,

1 Troop

2 Fast Attack (1 for FA + 1 for Misc)

Forgeworld is allowed, but only if it fits into the restrictions above.
