Techmarine entry weirdness

I love Techmarines.  Every codex, I try to squeeze one into my lists somehow, and fail.  Here's my attempt at trying to squeeze one in, wherein I realized something.. weird..  The Techmarine comes armed with a BP and a Boltgun.  The entry explicitly states that the model can replace its BP and/or Bolter for a Power Axe..  Yet the unit already has access to Melee Weapons.  There is no cost benefit either way.  What is up with that?  Editing error? Oversight?  I've tried to find a way to abuse this, but apparently I can't :)

Just an artefact of the clumsy universal wargear lists. The Melee/Ranged Weapons lists don't allow you to exchange your boltgun, only a bolt pistol or melee weapon. So you couldn't have power axe and bolt pistol without that option.

My BA codex wargear entry for Melee Weapons states that "A model may replace its bolt pistol, boltgun and/or Melee weapon with one of the following:" so it's pretty much completely redundant in this respect.  I'd say it's just a very odd option line.

You'd be much better off taking a Lightning Claw if you do take an upgrade, especially as the Power Axe costs the same but is made irrelevant by the fist. The only advantage that the Axe confers is an extra attack and the ability to fire a pistol into an assault. The first is negated by the ability to take a specialist weapon in the form of a LC, and losing the second is made up for by being able to throw a Krak Grenade on the charge, if nobody else in the unit does.
