henrywalker
So i'm going back to my wolves at the moment. I have quite a lot of thunder wolf models which i originally modelled with spears/lances and i ran them as CCW. Now that i have more options as to what to equip them with i was contemplating ripping them off in favour of other weapons. Then it occurred to me that on the thunder wolf cavalry the power lance might not be such a bad option. Your cavalry really should be getting the charge and with everyone getting S6 AP3 on the charge they will wipe a lot of things out first turn. plus charging with shield and lance on a wolf is pretty badass. obviously you could pay 5 points more for a frost blade/wolf claw and get the bonus strength and AP all the time but 30 points on a 6 man unit isn't to be sniffed at. to be honest i'll probably keep the spears to save me the hassle, plus they look pretty cool. What do you guys think? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302610-power-weapons-for-thunderwolves/ Share on other sites
Baulder
personally I prefer mauls as they can hurt MCs and Vehicles a bit more reliably. I leave the AP up to the dice gods since all TWC weapons have rending. Nova_chron
Also they have rending built in so rolls of 6 are AP-2 unless I read the rule wrong Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302610-power-weapons-for-thunderwolves/#findComment-3932125 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I prefer power mauls if I take any at all. CCW have rending (mentioned already) and the mauls concussive can actually be brutal to certain units/armies (mentioned already). I do love the idea of spears and shields. I bet it looks killer!! Daevohk
Lances are so cool, they're just suboptimal in almost every situation though. I've had great success with mauls, but i've had great success with everything else too. It doesn't really matter what you put on Twolves. henrywalker
where would one get spears ? Im 3 cavalry away from three units of 6 and spears and shields sounds like a lot of fun Ah, um, well mine aren't exactly TWC. I'm a bit of a traitor. I have a Khorne army which I counts as space wolves and my TWC are guys on juggernauts. Their box set comes with awesome ornate spears. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
Frankly, any weapon outside a Thunder Hammer feels kinda wasted on TWC...that said, I do equip 2 of my 5 "Titan Hunter" packs with Wolf Claws for Init based killing. I have 2 types of Thunder Wolves- Apoc Thunderwolves, or Standard Game Thunderwolf pack The Apoc pack is 3 Thunder Hammers, 2 Wolf Clasws, all storm shields. I've yet to find something this pack doesnt screw up royally. The Standard game pack is 1 Wolf Claw, 1 Power Fist and 1 Thunder Hammer (Fist over hammer for aesthetic reasons alone), all shields. This gives me 2 "meat shield" Thunderwolves, and 3 guys that can take on damn near anything. MeatGrinder
I rarely give my TWC power weapons, if I have the points I give them a fist or a hammer. So many s5 rending attacks plus two characters means its usually just excess. Gman
I'm looking into getting a unit of these for a fast moving, hard hitting unit. Rest of my army is foot slogging across the board, other than some termis. So with that said, it seems like you at least one a fist or hammer in there for vehicles, right? And to cover challenges, should I at least put a PW or FS and storm shield on the leader? Do people just leave them pretty plain and cheap? Wulfgar Ironmane
Put 1 Powerfist on em... but that is it really. Reichfaust
I love Power Mauls on TWC just for the fact it means they're hitting with the force of an Autocannon. But as Daevohk said above, you can't really go wrong with them, whatever the loadout--I say go with the spears if that's what tickles your fancy. It will look rad as hell and S6/AP3 on the charge means you'll probably wipe infantry squads in a single turn anyway! Commander_Moustache
I have had a lot of success with a lance. I mean, they do tend to whipe out units on the charge, and if they dont, there are anouth attacks to make them fail some saves. Again this is only against marines since everythign else is killed on a 2+ already. Rift Blade
As Henrywalker suggested, the Juggernaut kit. I bought a box at Xmas to convert for my IP's on TW. The spears in them are really good for wolves IMO. And you have some bits to base them with.
