Thunder Wolf load out questions.

Hi Everyone

I know there have been a lot of threads about the best possible load out and number of thunderwolves.

I have never uesd them and just bought some, and I wanted to know what would be the best general load out for the models I have.

I will have access to -

x3 thunderwolf Cav with the normal sprues and weapons they come with.

X1 Harold Deathwolf

X1 canis Wolfbourne

I was thinking of running something like the following.

x1 WC BP

x1 WC SS

X1 TH or PF and SS

But i am honestly just guessing based on previous threads and my own thoughts.

Could i get some advise based onthe models i have as to the load out you would run please.

I will be playing mainly Orks, Eldar, and Blood angels.

I dislike WC's, you have free rending. Sink those points into something else. I like to hide a fist or hammer in my unit and depending on what you are sending them after, you may want to increase/decrease your number of SS.

Ok that's a good idea on the WC  and a good way to keep the cost down.

i guess I just though about it as S5 and rending re rolling wounds

It can pen A10 and glance A11 as well. just making it a little more versatile. Also well suited to monstrous creatures and characters.

I guess i plan on using them against everything I can, I want them to be able to take out infantry and Mech / Monstrous creatures.

which was Why I was thinking about having SS on most of them.

How would you run 3 TWC with harold / similar wolf lord

Also have canis there as well.

How do people tend to us Canis these days?

They were a gift from my wife who knows very little about 40k. She buys odds and ends from Yoymart when it was still around and noticed they sell Warhammer stuff.

So I ended up getting a box of Yoymart stuff for xmas.

she thought it was a great suprise.

She still has no idea they are knock off's. Dont have the heart to tell her.

she was so proud of herself

So I have these and even an imperial knight to put together.

Its all a little funny/annoying as before Xmas I bought some terminators from Ebay, which also turned out to be resin.

so i have around 1k points of Resin right now.

Not to keen on trying to magnatize resin.

I do plan on buying some more this year some time, so will look at the magnet option then.

I think the shred and rending rules mix really well. At S*, with a possible S7 with FC, and shred, they are great TAC units

I don't disagree with that at all. I just think that if you are looking to keep them cheap and cheerful the claw isn't needed. Rending alone is free, but yes, the shred is pretty killer and TAC and stuff.

What is TAC??

I run 10 to 15 TWC  in my lists ,  expensive is only a state of mind , if they are the core of yer list you should equip them well , if you are just taking a few you  ought to run them as pfss bpccw bpccw  and then like ccwss  throw in an axe if you need the extra ap2  but like I  said , I build lists around these guys and it works out well for me.

Too Jingoistic... Thats fair. When i first joined, it was all nonsense to me.

TAC = Take All Comers, which, on its own, doesn't sound like something to aim for, is a reference to a rounded list, that could fight well against any list.

I think claws and fists make the most sense, with a maul being an interesting xfactor.

ON a side note I have done a lot of searching on line and it looks like poor old Canis is not very popular as you suggest.

people preferring to take Harold.

I think I see him more like a wolf priest for TWC so I am rally keen to try him out and see how he goes.

I think the issue is not the model or his rules, more how much he costs for what you get.

I think that is what it will come down to.

but very excited to try anyway.

if its all resin, the clip off Canis's upper torso and replace it with Deathwolf's upper torso.

Canis is a joke (and a poor one at that), but this free's up a thunder wolf. Using spare upper torsos (which almost every gamer has laying around) turn the now upper torso-less Deathwolf (so his legs) into a 4th thunderwolf rider, pushing your count up to a more respectable 4.

Then you have an impressive Deathwolf with 4 thunderwolf cav to escort on the field.

The Canis is actually Metal. I have had him for a number of years.

Only his paw is resin lol.. opened him after 3 years to find he was missing a paw.

GW sent me a new foot with 2 arms and the back back for Canis. so have a few spare parts for him.

Could always pull off an arm and replace it with a bolt pistol, as i believe Canis has a pistol in his war gear. that way i can use him as generic TWC or as Canis as desired?

Why do people think he is so poor?

From what I can see his rules synergise well with a TWC unit and make them more powerful?

Is it just that he is not worth his points?

Jorin Deathfang would be a cool  Wolf Lord name

Canis is pricy for a bunch of things that dont make him terribly useful , hes got like an extra wound and an extra attack rampage and some buffs to cyber wolves and fenrisan wolves but none of that is stuff you are gonna really make a ton of use out of  plus at 185 points its like , you might as well take a wolf lord with wolf claws  cause then you could give him runic armor and be 2+4++  instead of 3+

Canis falls into that category with Krom Dragongaze and Ragnar Blackmane , where you can just build a better character out of a wolf lord or wolf guard battle leader than the actual character itself

Not worth the points when for a few more, you can get Deathwolf.

Armor save of 3+, no invul save, and his weapons are AP3. While rending may help, its random so cant be relied upon.

Basically he should be a squad level upgrade and cost alot less, but he's over-priced and doesnt hit hard enough as is.
